Description David Walser 2017-11-08 04:38:22 CET
Upstream has released PHP 5.6.32 on October 26:
http://php.net/archive/2017.php#id2017-10-26-3

It fixes a couple of security issues:
http://php.net/ChangeLog-5.php#5.6.32

Note that the PCRE issue doesn't affect us, because we build against the system pcre in which we fixed that issue last year.

Updated packages uploaded for Mageia 5, Mageia 6, and Cauldron.

Advisory:
========================

Updated php packages fix security vulnerabilities:

Out-Of-Bounds Read in timelib_meridian() in the Date module (php#75055).

Arcfour encryption stream filter crashes php-mcrypt (php#72535).

In VirtualBox, M6, Plasma, 64-bit

Install and setup mariadb
In root terminal: systemctl start mysqld.service
Set password to: testphp
[root@localhost wilcal]# mysqladmin -u root password
type password "testphp" twice

[root@localhost wilcal]# systemctl start mysqld.service
[root@localhost wilcal]# mysqladmin -u root password
New password: testphp
Confirm new password: testphp
mysqladmin:
You cannot use 'password' command as mysqld runs
with grant tables disabled (was started with --skip-grant-tables).
Use: "mysqladmin flush-privileges password '*'" instead

and that does not work either

[root@localhost wilcal]# mysqladmin flush-privileges password 'testphp'
mysqladmin:
You cannot use 'password' command as mysqld runs
with grant tables disabled (was started with --skip-grant-tables).
Use: "mysqladmin flush-privileges password '*'" instead

[root@localhost wilcal]# mysqladmin flush-privileges password 'testphp'
mysqladmin:
You cannot use 'password' command as mysqld runs
with grant tables disabled (was started with --skip-grant-tables).
Use: "mysqladmin flush-privileges password '*'" instead

So we ran into this the last time. Either I didn't understand
the change or we never got a fix for establishing a password
for mariadb. Does anyone know how to do this?

Installed and tested without issues.

Tests included running several small and large PHP scripts (e.g. wordpress, drupal) from CLI and apache/mod_php. Debugging using Netbeans and xdebug was also tested. No regressions found.

System: Mageia 5, x86_64, Intel CPU.

Could you post an easy to follow procedure on how you did this.

Thanks

I have my work system already setup for PHP development work, with apache, php, mysql, netbeans and a bunch of other development related stuff installed. Also have several PHP projects and scripts ready to run, so it was only a matter of running firefox and typing some URLs.

If you have a PHP development system already setup, a similar test to what I did is easy to do, but from you comment, you probably don't have such such a setup.

You will need to install, at least, apache, mysql, php, php-xdebug, phpmyadmin, netbeans. Mageia does help a lot by making it easy to install and with basic configuration ready to run. You can use the package manager's GUI or CLI to do so. After you have a working PHP development system, you can then install a PHP script (e.g. wordpress). After all these are installed, just run a browser like firefox and type in the URL for the local wordpress (e.g. http://localhost/wordpress/)

These URLs may be of help:

@William: for a fresh install of mariadb, use the mysql_secure_installation command to set the initial password.

MGA5-32 on Asus A6000VM Xfce
No installation issues.
I had mysql already installed, added netbean packages and went thru all steps to install and login to Wordpress with succes.
That should be enough proof for php.

Install and set up of mariadb & phpmyadmin

In a su root terminal: systemctl start mysqld.service
Set password to: testphp
[root@localhost wilcal]# mysql_secure_installation

NOTE: RUNNING ALL PARTS OF THIS SCRIPT IS RECOMMENDED FOR ALL MariaDB
SERVERS IN PRODUCTION USE! PLEASE READ EACH STEP CAREFULLY!

In order to log into MariaDB to secure it, we'll need the current
password for the root user. If you've just installed MariaDB, and
you haven't set the root password yet, the password will be blank,
so you should just press enter here.

Enter current password for root (enter for none): (enter)
OK, successfully used password, moving on...

Setting the root password ensures that nobody can log into the MariaDB
root user without the proper authorisation.

Set root password? [Y/n] y
New password: testphp
Re-enter new password: testphp
Password updated successfully!
Reloading privilege tables..
 ... Success!

By default, a MariaDB installation has an anonymous user, allowing anyone
to log into MariaDB without having to have a user account created for
them. This is intended only for testing, and to make the installation
go a bit smoother. You should remove them before moving into a

Normally, root should only be allowed to connect from 'localhost'. This

By default, MariaDB comes with a database named 'test' that anyone can

This update works fine for me.
One could make a career of testing this.
Unless someone wants to test some more I'll
validate this in 24-hours.

Validating the update.
Could someone from the sysadmin team push to updates.
Thanks
