Description Stew Benedict 2011-07-15 01:45:08 CEST
Description of problem:

Don't know if we want to blame the update, or mgaapplet, but the mentioned package update fails to install with the gui:

Sorry, the following package cannot be selected:
perl-CPANPLUS-0.910.300-1.1.mga1.noarch (due to unsatisfied
               perl(Archive::Extract))

urpmi updates it fine, pulling in perl-IPC-Cmd and perl-Archive-Extract

So I guess we either want push those 2 to updates or fix mgaapplet (or it's just a fluke only I experienced)
Comment 1 Thomas Backlund 2011-07-15 02:08:56 CEST
I guess mgaapplet has not been fixed to pull from /release, as back in mdv it assumed all packages was available in /updates

But why isn't the fix in MageiaUpdate already? we imported it from cooker, so that fix should be in...

This now affects bug 2097 where the purpose of the update is to add a
requires for hugin, which is only in Core Release.

While trying to recreate the install problem, I used "urpme hugin", which
uninstalled hugin and kipi-plugins-expoblending.

I then reinstalled kipi-plugins-expoblending from "Core Release".

I restarted mgaapplet, and waited the 5 minutes, to try and recreate
the problem reported to me.

but ...

[root@hodgins ~]# urpmi --auto-select
To satisfy dependencies, the following packages are going to be installed:
   Package Version Release Arch
(medium "Core Release")
  hugin 2010.4.0 2.mga1 i586
(medium "Core Updates")
  kipi-plugins-expoblending 1.9.0 3.1.mga1 i586
35MB of additional disk space will be used.
10MB of packages will be retrieved.
Proceed with the installation of the 2 packages? (Y/n)

In addition to the problem of not allowing required packages to come from
Core Release, it seems mgaapplet doesn't even recognize that an update
is available, when it is.

In my opinion, mgaapplet should be using "urpmi --auto-select", after updating
the repositories, rather then "urpmi.update --update".

bug 2317 covers and will fix this, when it's addressed
