Description peter lawford 2017-07-31 13:35:30 CEST
Description of problem:
under new kernel-4.9.40: none of my 2 printers HP officejet pro 8000-a809 and HP officetjet 7310 work, although they worked well under mageia5 (see bug #21381)

I consider that an operating system under which it is impossible to print has value zero

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:in a terminal, type:
[toto@magaux ~]$ lpr -P Officejet_Pro_8000_A809 -o PageSize=A4 -o sides=one-sided -o Resolution=1200dpi reim.pdf
lpr: The printer or class does not exist.

the same for officejet 7310

Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.

How is that bug different from bug 21381? Did it end up working with a previous kernel and no longer works with 4.9.40? If not, one bug report is enough, and the issue is most likely not kernel-related.

this bug is exactly the same as bug 21381, but under kernel-4.9.40 instead 4.9.35
I logged in localhost:631, and everything appears to be OK, but when I want to remove or modify or manage the printers, I may not, since there is no invite to loggin under root
nevertheless, I removed the printers, and reinstalled them in the mageia mcc (section material>printers), but nothing has changed.
I recall you I installed mga6 by migrating from mga5

Thanks for the confirmation, then I suggest we keep only bug 21381, as the two bug reports are duplicates. You can comment in bug 21381 that you upgraded to kernel 4.9.40 and that it did not solve the situation - no need to open a new bug report for each kernel upgrade. As I mentioned, the issue my very well not be kernel related (still, it's interesting to know that upgrading the system did not solve things magically, it allows to eliminate potential culprits).

*** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 21381 ***

Status: NEW => RESOLVED
Resolution: (none) => DUPLICATE

I am at your disposal for further informations (returns of commands,...) to fix this problem; as I've already written, an OS which can't allow to use printers is just good for trash; it would be a pity for mageia.
When I'll have some free time, I'll install mageia6 directly from its image.iso to examine if this bug does persist or not
