Description of problem: 1) from of the downloaded 'Mageia 5.1-i586-DVD.iso' I have the system in a VM (/ home partition condition) relaunched. 2) When installing I have the distribution upgrade approved. ====> Without this option, the system perhaps might have been successful. 3) The booting process of new system ended with a frozen boot 4) Renaming /etc/X11/xorg.conf or deleting with: rm -f /etc/X11/xorg.conf made the system bootable again. 5) Here then were the Mageia own Guest Additions (virtualbox-guest-additions) no longer effective. 6) Then I have the package 'virtualbox-guest-additions' uninstalled. The request for uninstalling additional packages came: Die folgenden Pakete: dkms-minimal-2.0.19-34.1.mga5.noarch vboxadditions-kernel-4.4.30-desktop-2.mga5-5.1.2-10.mga5.i586 vboxadditions-kernel-desktop-latest-5.1.10-2.1.mga5.i586 x11-driver-video-vboxvideo-5.1.10-1.1.mga5.i586 sind nun verwaist. Vielleicht wollen Sie diese entfernen. Here I answered with 'OK' and at a later $ sudo urpme --auto-orphans Um die Abhängigkeiten zu erfüllen, werden die folgenden 4 Pakete entfernt (5.2MB): (verwaiste Pakete) dkms-minimal-2.0.19-34.1.mga5.noarch vboxadditions-kernel-4.4.30-desktop-2.mga5-5.1.2-10.mga5.i586 vboxadditions-kernel-desktop-latest-5.1.10-2.1.mga5.i586 x11-driver-video-vboxvideo-5.1.10-1.1.mga5.i586 Entfernen von 4 Paketen? (j/N) firstly uninstalled. 7) The Guest Additions installed now by the Oracle ISO (VBoxGuestAdditions.iso) This required the installation of 'gcc' and 'make'. 8) The system is running now properly without any Mageia-own GuestAdditions . This procedure is now reproducible by everyone and the error is clearly in one of the updates from Mageia 5. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Mageia 5 with last Update and virtualbox-guest-additions 5.1.10 How reproducible: always Steps to Reproduce: Points 1) to 8) above.
Known issue. We probably should have added something here: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_5.1_Release_Notes Anyway, you need to add "nomodeset" to your kernel command line. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 18724 ***

After I have inserted the kernel option 'nomodeset', the system runs with the GuestAdditions from the Oracle ISO with /etc/Xorg/xorg.conf as well as without this file. The Mageia's own GuestAdditions are still installed, but this does not bother us. But if I now uninstall the GuestAdditions from Oracle with: /opt/VBoxGuestAdditions-5.1.10/uninstall.sh Then the system starts no longer - neither with /etc/Xorg/xorg.conf as well without. Are the Mageia GuestAdditions now not automatically effective again or what can be the reason for this behavior?
