Description William Kenney 2016-08-08 07:03:41 CEST
Description of problem:

On real hardware, M6, Plasma, 64-bit

This is a discovery in progress. Some of the customary drag the file and drop it on the app functions do not work, or do strange things. To recreate simply take something like a common mp4 file in the Videos folder and drag and drop it on the OpenShot desktop icon. Nothing happens. If you first open OpenShot and drag the file to the working files area that works fine. This process works just fine in M5. Use a common mp3 file in Music and drag and drop it on the VLC icon on the desktop. Nothing happens. If you open VLC and drag and drop the file to the VLC files to play section that works fine. Create a simple text.txt file with the text editor, save it in Documents then drag and drop it on the LibreOffice Writer icon on the desktop. LibreOffice Writer will not open with that text file. In fact it appears that LibreOffice goes a little crazy. Sorry, I need to tinker with this some more to fully understand it. If anyone can find more about this that would be appreciated. Thanks

On real hardware, M6, Plasma, 64-bit

Package(s) under test:
Plasma desktop, drag and drop function

Create a simple ods file as in /Documents/test01.ods using LibreOffice Calc
Open Calc -> File -> Open -> test01.ods
That works just fine.
Using Dolphin right button click on /Documents/test01.ods Open With LibreOffice Calc
That works ok
Using Dolphin drag and drop /Documents/test01.ods on the LibreOffice Calc desktop icon
Nothing happens

Create a simple odt file as in /Documents/test02.odt using LibreOffice Writer
Open Writer -> File -> Open -> test02.odt
That works just fine.
Using Dolphin right button click on /Documents/test02.odt Open With LibreOffice Writer
That works ok
Using Dolphin drag and drop /Documents/test02.odt on the LibreOffice Writer desktop icon
Nothing happens

Create a simple text file as in /Documents/test03.txt using Kwrite
Open Writer -> File -> Open -> test03.txt
That works just fine.
Using Dolphin right button click on /Documents/test03.txt Open With LibreOffice Writer
That works ok
Using Dolphin drag and drop /Documents/test02.txt on the LibreOffice Writer desktop icon
Nothing happens

Create a simple mp3 file as in /Music/test04.mp3 using anything
Open VLC -> Media -> Open File -> test04.mp3
That works just fine.
Using Dolphin right button click on /Music/test04.mp3 Open With VLC
That works ok
Using Dolphin drag and drop /Music/test04.mp3 on the VLC desktop icon
Nothing happens

All of these drag and drop functions work on M5/KDE

Create a simple text file as in /Documents/test03.txt using Kwrite
Open Kwrite -> Open -> /Documents/test03.txt
That works just fine.
Using Dolphin right button click on /Documents/test03.txt Open With Kwrite
That works ok
Using Dolphin drag and drop /Documents/test03.txt on the LibreOffice Writer desktop icon
That actually works

Dragging and dropping a txt document on the Libreoffice writer icon works
while doing the same on the kwrite icon does not. Open kwrite and drop
the same txt file on an empty working document and that will work. Dropping
an mp3 file on the Audacity icon works just fine. Dragging the same file,
or an mp4 file on the VLC icon, does not work. Dragging an mp4 file on the
Openshot icon does not work. Open Openshot dragging an mp4 on that window
works fine. Dropping a jpg file on the gimp icon works fine.

I quite honestly don't know what's right or wrong here.

CC'ing shlomi for vlc, though.
