(Fixed in cauldron, the fix only still needs to be applied to Mga5 drakx-kbd-mouse-x11)

This is does not happen in Mageia 6. Since we are soon to release 5.1, it would be nice if this was fixed. I discovered it playing with 5.1, and checked that it existed in current 5. I only fell over it in the GDM Login password field; did not get as far as different desktops & applications. Is it just GDM -> Gnome? I will explore further.

In case it helps: - The GDM Login dialogue is always QWERTY. - All desktops launched from GDM *except* Gnome (Cinnamon, KDE4, LXDE, Mate, XFCE) end up as QWERTY. - Gnome & GnomeClassic end up with the *correct* k/b layout. Probably why this fault went so long unnoticed. Who would use GDM other than from the GnomeLive ISO?
Odd. I've just tested this with both the latest 5.1 Live ISO and the latest 5.1 CI ISO (64-bit in both cases), selecting English as my language and German as my keyboard layout. This behaves as expected; there's a drop-down menu on the GDM top bar that selects the keyboard layout, which provides two options, DE (the default) and US (why not GB I ask!). With DE selected I get the expected qwertz layout when I type into the user name box. What language/keyboard combination did you select, Lewis?
I am writing this from up-to-date M5, GnomeClassic Desktop launched via [QWERTY] GDM. > there's a drop-down menu on the GDM top bar that selects the keyboard layout For GDM - here I find no such top keyboard menu (it has calender; accessibilty; sound/shutdown). But I see that once into Gnome, there is indeed a language/keyboard menu top-right offering a choice between the installed one (pre-selected) and US English. My installation is for Welsh language (which in practice yields mostly English) with French AZERTY k/b. I note that Marja's original complaint was "After an installation where gnome was chosen, whatever keyboard layout was selected, gdm and Gnome use qwerty. - problem to enter the password in gdm - all applications in Gnome are qwerty" The first remains true, GDM runs in QWERTY. But the second is the exact opposite of what I find: only Gnome[Classic] runs correctly with the installed k/b; all other Desktops launched via GDM run (without any manipulation) in QWERTY! I have not thought to check whether *they* have a keyboard selection option somewhere; I will look into that, also for 5.1. But a manipulation should not be necessary to use automatically the installed k/b. The bug description is unclear about the provenance of GDM: 'if Gnome is chosen'. Perhaps the second complaint arises from a Gnome-only installation from the Classic ISO, to be explored with 5.1. My case is all Desktops, pulling in all DMs. But I do not deny that I may have overlooked something basic...
Sorry, I never found time to apply Colin's patch in Mageia 5's drakx-kbd-mouse-x11 :-( Mageia 5 has officially reached its End of Life on December 31st, 2017 https://blog.mageia.org/en/2017/11/07/mageia-5-eol-postponed/ It only continued to get important security updates since then, but non-security bugs have no chance of still getting fixed. So closing as OLD
