Description of problem: After installation of mageia1 (32-bit) on a notebook (Medion MD98300) the dvd-burner is not recognized as an optical-device. device sr0 has not been created. In file /proc/scsi/scsi the burner is not listed ! The burner is shown as device hdc. I can mount a dvd manually with the mount-command (and read). If i start K3B, it tells me, that it cannot find an optical device. BOS-Information: SATA HDD(port one): WDC WD1200BEVS-00RST0 PATA ODD (secondary master): TSSTcorpCD/DVDW P.S. the optical-device works fine with "Mandriva 2010.2" or other distributions ! Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 2.6.38.7-desktop-1.mga How reproducible: Every time i nstall Mageia1 Steps to Reproduce: 1.Install Mageia1 2. 3.
In VirtualBox Mageia1 works fine.
$ grep /dev ~/.kde4/share/config/k3brc current_writer=/dev/sr0 writer_device=/dev/sr0 writer_device=/dev/sr0 While it can be done in the k3b config, try changing the above to hdc, and see if that works.

there are no entries "current_writer=" or "writer_device=" in the file k3brc ! The problem is that the device "/dev/sr0" does not exist. "/dev/hdc" is the wrong device.
