Description of problem: My new Dell Optiplex 7040 comes out of installation with a wired Ethernet connection that does not work. During installation, a fixed IP address at 192.168.0.13 had been specified, but the interface active after the first boot is an address out of the dynamic pool (192.168.0.29, evidently obtained from the DHCP router). In fact, installation did generate 2 interfaces: enp0s31f6 (the one automatically activated at boot, but trying to use the dynamic IP address) and eth0 (an interface configured according to the parameters specified during boot). I attach the 2 corresponding ifcfg-xxx files. Going into drakconnect, first destroying both interfaces and then recreating one (with the fixed IP address) creates a new enp0s31f6 interface that works perfectly and is configured as it should be. Notes: 1. The system coming out of installation appears to have other problem(s) - immediately after boot the machine goes into an apparent total freeze (blank screen, no pilot lights); after 1 minute the splash screen appears and the system boots into an operational state. I will file a corresponding bug once I have done some more exploring 2. The Optiplex 7040 is a very recent model (Mageia 5 cannot be made install on that machine). Dell claims to ship this machine with pre-installed Ubuntu - therefore fundamental problems with Linux should not exist for this machine (and it seems to sell well and other Mageia users are likely to acquire such a machine). Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): How reproducible: 100% Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install and fully upgrade cauldron Dev 1 2. Boot the system 3.
Created attachment 7645 [details] ifcfg-enp0s31f6: automatically activated after boot, but incorrect
Created attachment 7646 [details] ifcfg-eth0: correctly configured, but not activated
PS: I only realise this now: the wired interfaces defined by the installer and by drakconnect are identical, except for the Metric: METRIC is configured to 10 by the installer, to 5 by drakconnect. That probably does not make much difference - but why is there inconsistency between the installer and drakconnect?
There are more bug reports about problems with wired interfaces and enp0* and eth0 mixups, but I haven't understood where the problem comes from (systemd?, installer?, so am not sure whether I can close this report as a dup of one of them. Thierry will know :-)

I think you can close them as dups
(In reply to Thierry Vignaud from comment #5) > I think you can close them as dups Thanks, doing so now. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 17683 ***
