Description of problem: Given a copy of a valid Mageia-5 .pan2 directory, ther Pan newsreader will not start. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Source RPM : pan-0.139-7.mga6.src.rpm Build Date : Mon 08 Feb 2016 21:43:40 GMT How reproducible: Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install 64-bit Mageia-6-dev1 2. Copy valid Mageia-5 .pan2 directory into /home/user 3. Install pan Start pan; fails as follows: $ pan GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name news.pan.NZB was not provided by any .service files (pan:7270): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme directory of theme oxygen has no size field ** ERROR:pan-tree.cc:80:GtkTreeIter PanTreeStore::get_iter(const PanTreeStore::Row*): assertion failed: (row) Aborted (core dumped) [mab@localhost ~]$ N.B. If ~/.pan2 is 'hidden', pan starts normally (but empty!)
N.B. I was asked - when about to make this bug report - to assign it to: pkg-bugs-Kfi0mlvI6tSGglJvpFV4uA@public.gmane.org as pan has no official maintainer, with a link to the GNOME bug report, so that a packager can have a look at updating to the latest "unstable" release - but that 'Assign to' string was refused, because: "Mageia Bugzilla was unable to make any match at all for one or more of the names and/or email addresses you entered on the previous page."
See https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=756458 which mentions that the bug was resolved upstream in the current git branch. (In reply to Maurice Batey from comment #1) > N.B. I was asked - when about to make this bug report - to assign it to: > > pkg-bugs-Kfi0mlvI6tSGglJvpFV4uA@public.gmane.org > The email was redacted by gmane apparently, see the current assignee for the right one.

> See https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=756458 I see there is reference to Pan 0.4, so just a question of awaiting availability of that (hopefully with the later-mentioned re-compilation v. gtk3)?
Problem still there in Mageua-6-sta1: $ pan GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name news.pan.NZB was not provided by any .service files (pan:21749): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme directory actions/48 of theme breeze has no size field (pan:21749): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme directory categories/16 of theme breeze has no size field (pan:21749): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme directory categories/22 of theme breeze has no size field (pan:21749): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme directory categories/48 of theme breeze has no size field (pan:21749): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme directory devices/48 of theme breeze has no size field ** ERROR:pan-tree.cc:80:GtkTreeIter PanTreeStore::get_iter(const PanTreeStore::Row*): assertion failed: (row) Aborted (core dumped)
Have just installed the 20/6 32-bit Magei-6-sta1 on Samsung NC110 netbook - and Pan 0.139 does work - in a Plasma login! Its 'help' info says it is V.139 "Sexual Chocolate GIT bf56508" - exactly as does Pan on Mageia-5.... Will soon check this on 64-bit desktop... (Perhaps the earlier Pan problem was a Plasma problem that has now gone...)
> Will soon check this on 64-bit desktop... Sadly, Pan will not start on 64-bit install, as before: pan GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name news.pan.NZB was not provided by any .service files ** ERROR:pan-tree.cc:80:GtkTreeIter PanTreeStore::get_iter(const PanTreeStore::Row*): assertion failed: (row) Aborted (core dumped) So, on 32-bit Mageia-6-sta1 on netbook, Pan works normally, but not on 64-bit desktop... (In both cases, non-EFI, non-GPT, real hardware) Source RPM : pan-0.139-7.mga6.src.rpm
It should be updated to version 0.140: https://git.gnome.org/browse/pan2/plain/NEWS
> It should be updated to version 0.140: By what means, Remi?
By a packager :)
In the absence of a Pan 0.140 update in Cauldron I installed the Fedora RPM: pan-0.140-1.fc24.x86_64.rpm - and that started happily.

Could you try pan-0.140-1.mga6 that was pushed today?
That update came through today, and works fine on Mageia-6 with the Mageia-5 .pan2. So as far as I'm concerned this item can be closed. Many thanks to all!
Thanks, closing then.
