Description Jüri Ivask 2016-03-07 13:43:27 CET
Description of problem: After updateing Plasma Desktop to new 5.5.6beta, opening about half of the systemsettings5 items make it to crash

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 5.5.95

Some tests from koncole using $ LC_ALL=C systemsettings5

1. Workspace Theme
Error loading plugin "kcm_lookandfeel" "The shared library was not found."
Plugin search paths are ("/usr/lib/qt5/plugins", "/usr/bin")
The environment variable QT_PLUGIN_PATH might be not correctly set
KCrash: Application 'systemsettings5' crashing...
KCrash: Attempting to start /usr/libexec/drkonqi from kdeinit
sock_file=/run/user/1000/kdeinit5__0

[1]+ Stopped LC_ALL=C systemsettings5

2. Display and Monitor
LOAD
kscreen: starting external backend launcher for ""
Activate output 65
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

3. Multimedia
Error loading plugin "kcm_pulseaudio" "The shared library was not found."
Plugin search paths are ("/usr/lib/qt5/plugins", "/usr/bin")
The environment variable QT_PLUGIN_PATH might be not correctly set
Trying to use rootObject before initialization is completed, whilst using setInitializationDelayed. Forcing completion
org.kde.plasma.pulseaudio: Attempting connection to PulseAudio sound daemon
org.kde.plasma.pulseaudio: QHash((266, "Name")(265, "VolumeWritable")(264, "HasVolume")(263, "Muted")(262, "Volume")(261, "Properties")(260, "Index")(259, "ObjectName")(258, "PulseObject")(257, "Index")(268, "SinkIndex")(267, "Client"))
org.kde.plasma.pulseaudio: state callback
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

4. Desktop Behaviour -> Desktop Effects
Constructing a KPluginInfo object from old style JSON. Please use kcoreaddons_desktop_to_json() for "/usr/lib/qt5/plugins/kwin/effects/configs/kcm_kwin4_genericscripted.so" instead of kservice_desktop_to_json() in your CMake code.
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

5. and some more similar

Also it is impossible to open any window to configure widgets eg Taskbar, Desktop Settings etc - the window that opens turns to black at once and then after that the whole desktop. Restarting DM is needed to get the desktop back.

This continues also after todays KF5.20 update and Plasma5.5.95 rebuild

Comment 2 John Choate 2016-03-08 23:50:13 CET
I fixed my systemsettings5 by compiling both qtquickcontrols and qtquickcontrols2 sources from http://download.qt.io/development_releases/qt/5.6/5.6.0-rc/submodules/
Now the various systemsettings configs work.
Comment 3 John Choate 2016-03-08 23:54:35 CET
Desktop settings is still broken and I need to kill and re-launch plasmashell to get plasma back.
I can now get to the system tray settings, which previously was also freezing plasmashell.

i will launch a qt5 rebuild, this is a strange issue :(
Comment 5 John Choate 2016-03-09 00:36:10 CET
I just fixed desktop settings by compiling plasma-desktop-5.5.95

Fixed bug title to reflect both issues :)

It seems that tonight qt5 rebuld fixed them.

But now appeared a new problem: Systemsettings -> Power Management: Power Management configuration module could not be loaded. The Power Management Service appears not to be running. This can be solved by starting or scheduling it inside "Startup and Shutdown"
However, Startup and Shutdown -> Background Services -> Startup Services displays that it is started and running...

Starting Systemsettings5 from console says:

Forgot to say, that after that qt5 update the first plasma5 desktop start resulted only a wallpaper and no panel. Deleted cache and restarted sddm and got the desktop up and running except that Power Management problem.

Hmm, it seems that poweroff or reboot has fixed also that "Power Management: Power Management configuration module could not be loaded." problem...

So, can we mark this bug as fixed?
