Description psyca 2015-05-04 13:42:13 CEST
Description of problem:
After installing Mageia 5 you have no sound output.
If you look on the volumecontrol, you can see, that the soundcard was found correctly and it recognize that there comes sound (moving bars), but you cant hear something.
It doesnt matter which output you choose in the volumecontrol under configuration
(Analog Stereo Output, Analog Stereo Duplex.... ) or on the output (theres only analogue headphones selectabel), you cant hear something

To fix this:
Open a console
Type alsamixer and then press F6
Select the Soundcard and then go right to Analog output.
Now you see that Analog Output (Stereo Headphones FP) is selectet (FP = Frontpanel ?)
by pressing the downbutton you can switch to Analog Output [Stereo Headphones] and now you can hear sound.

This you cannot set in the Volumecontrol (LXDE)

Reproducible:

Is this only an issue in LXDE, or in other DEs, too?

Just made an cleaninstall of the MGA5RC.iso with KDE(4). No difference. It doesnt work with the configtools KDE provide, too.
I have to run alsamixer via console and switch the output.

@ psyca

Sorry for not having replied.

Tbh, I don't know what to do with this report, so I'm just hoping it is no longer valid.

Does sound work out of the box with Mageia 6sta1?

Unless you hear back from psyca I think this can be closed.

I'm using an Asus Xonar DX on this cauldron system

lspcidrake -v |grep snd
snd_virtuoso : C-Media Electronics Inc|CMI8788 [Oxygen HD Audio] [MULTIMEDIA_AUDIO] (vendor:13f6 device:8788 subv:1043 subd:8275)

It has to be properly configured in pulseaudio but other than that I have no issue with sound.
For me that means that Output Devices is set 'Digital Output (S/PDIF)'
Configuration is set 'Digital Stereo Duplex (IEC598)'

Looks like this is upstream to alsa.

Till MGA4 it was ok. Since MGA5 and 6 (Cauldron) i have to do the way with opening alsamixer in console and change settings like described in the opening post.
Just tested Lubuntu 16.10 and theres the same problem.
