Description Xuo 2011-06-04 13:33:04 CEST
Description of problem:

The following packages :

    * libopenmotif-devel
    * libopenmotif4
    * openmotif

are not available within Mageia packages while they are in Mandriva ones.
Is it possible to add them, as I need them for my nedit text editor.

Thanks.

Xuo.

So far we follow the fedora license policy, and they do not accept openmotif's license, see http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Licensing look for "open motif". The license itself does not look so bad to me, but is certainly restrictive: it does not allow bundling with non-free (using their own definition) operating systems. We can put it in the 'nonfree' section I guess, otherwise we would need to carefully read the license and decide if it's OK for the 'core' section.

Could you explain a little what is bad about nedit using lesstif? I sometimes see an annoying bug, keyboard access not working, but otherwise it works fine.

Hi,

To be honest, I don't know if using lesstif will be a problem. I've always compiled nedit with openmotif without "too many" problems, while the time I tried with lesstif was a nightmare (but it was a long time ago). To my knowledge, nedit developers prefer to use openmotif. But, the supported openmotif version is 2.3 while the one included in Mandriva packages is 2.3.2. Then, I need to modify the Makefile for nedit to compile.

Regards.

I also need motif. I am trying to compile the Paraview package for scientific data visualization.

openmotif 2.3.3 is now in cauldron's nonfree section
Comment 6 Marco Silva 2011-07-27 18:02:20 CEST
I tried to use the openmotif package from cauldron's nonfree section.

It installs perfectly, but when I try to run the Citrix Client (which requires it), the remote session starts opening and then immediatly closes, without any error.

If I uninstall that and install the package from the Mandriva 2010.2 repositories, it works perfectly.

The Citrix website says it requires version 2.3.1. The Mandriva version is 2.3.2 and the version in Cauldron's repositories is 2.3.3. But I don't think it has anything to do with the different version numbers...

maybe we can provide - if possible - an update (as openmotif was in mandriva but missing in mageia1 ) ?
Comment 8 Marco Silva 2011-07-27 18:59:20 CEST
I think it would be great.

Besides, many other distros have it in their non-free repositories...

This message is a reminder that Mageia 1 is nearing its end of life.
In approximately 25 days from now, Mageia will stop maintaining and issuing
updates for Mageia 1. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX (EOL) if it
remains open with a Mageia 'version' of '1'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to
fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later
Mageia version prior to Mageia 1's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not
be able to fix it before Mageia 1 is end of life. If you would still like to see
this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Mageia,
you are encouraged to click on "Version" and change it against that version
of Mageia.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime,
sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Mageia
release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 10 Manuel Hiebel 2012-12-02 14:32:12 CET
Mageia 1 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on ''1st December''. Mageia 1 is no
longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or
bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Mageia
please feel free to click on "Version" change it against that version of Mageia and reopen this bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
