Description Vladimir Zawalinski 2015-01-02 13:46:28 CET
Test Environment
[Clevo 370 SMA laptop with AMD EFI (v tba). External eSATA LG BD. VBOX 4.3.18 with 'experimental' EFI booting, hosted on OpenSuse 13.2. Test system validated by testing for successful boot of OS13.2 DVD (classical and live) in both BIOS and EFI modes on virtual and real hardware first. All boot media were DVD]

Description of problem:
Live MGA 5 Beta 2 (GNOME) booted normally in BIOS (real hardware) and as a BIOS VM on VBOX. Boot from live DVD failed in EFI (real Hardware) and VBOX with 'motherboard' set to EFI.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
MGA5B2 (13/12/2014 release) GNOME and KDE

How reproducible:
Every time

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot MGA5B2 live DVD in VBOX setting 'motherboard' (under system settings) to EFI
2. Boot MGA5B2 live DVD on real hardware with EFI firmware known to operate well otherwise.
3. KDE and GNOME variants fail in the same way:

Outputs:
dracut Warning: Could not boot.
dracut Warning: /dev/disk/by-label/Mageia-5-beta2-GNOME-LiveDVD does not exist (sic)
However, 'ls /dev/disk/by-label' actually looks like this:
Mageia-5-GNOME-LiveDVD
The difference is that '-beta-' is missing from the name that is actually there.

This may not be the whole story, but it may be an incremental step.

Comment 2 Vladimir Zawalinski 2015-01-02 23:58:10 CET
This may be a regression from MGA5A2, as I was then able to boot to a running live system on the same real hardware environment used above when reporting bug 14330.

This bug is identical to bug #14367.

A workaround is described on https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13694#c10

Could you try the workaround with VBOX and real Hardware ?
If the workaround works for each case this bug could be close as duplicate of #14367

I will try this with round4 of beta 2. If that works I will close this bug. Thanks!
Comment 5 Stephane 2015-01-11 21:03:44 CET
If you test Beta2 it would normally work without modification of boot option.
Comment 6 Vladimir Zawalinski 2015-01-12 07:19:48 CET
This is a duplicate of 14367 and has been fixed in release MGA5B2R4
