Description of problem: When booting up, the boot option "Boot form Hard Disk" is at the tiop of the menu. Attempting same gives the result: quote Booting from local disk... Boot failed: press a key to retry... unquote Next, on pressing enter, it does work. Either it should work on first try, or the option could be removed (after all one can boot from hard disk without the DVD). Reproducible: Steps to Reproduce:

Yes former #950. Applies to 32 bits classical iso dated 01.AUG.2014.
Works perfectly on 3 isos here. May be hardware dependant. Can you give some details about it ?

Created attachment 5325 [details] output of 'lspcidrake -v' Sure. I am attaching output of 'lspcidrake -v'
Had the same when I remembered to try this (5alpha2) with the dual on 64 bits and with Mageia-5-alpha2-LiveCD-KDE4-en-i586-CD.iso and Mageia-5-alpha2-LiveDVD-GNOME-i586-DVD (all with the iso on a DVD). The involved systems were (for dual on 64bits and Gnome LiveDVD): https://wiki.mageia.org/en/User:Marja/QA/Hardware#Lenovo_3000J_Series and (for the KDE LiveCD): https://wiki.mageia.org/en/User:Marja/QA/Hardware#Lenovo_ThinkPad_L530 Note that the lspcidrake -v output is *not* from installs with those isos. I'll try to boot from HD on some more systems

(In reply to Marja van Waes from comment #7) > I'll try to boot from HD on some more systems Fails, too, with last dual 5a2 iso on DVD on this system: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/User:Marja/QA/Hardware#Lenovo_ThinkPad_SL510 and on this one https://wiki.mageia.org/en/User:Marja/QA/Hardware#NVidia_system_from_Alternate (tried a Live on the last one, too, which for which booting from HD failed in the same way)

btw, I hadn't seen it worked for dvg on 2nd try, for me it didn't work at all for the systems mentioned in comment 7, I haven't tried that 2nd try for the other systems...will report back if I do
(In reply to Marja van Waes from comment #9) > btw, I hadn't seen it worked for dvg on 2nd try, for me it didn't work at > all for the systems mentioned in comment 7, I haven't tried that 2nd try for > the other systems...will report back if I do No, they all reboot on 2nd try, like the other systems I tested. With dual, also neither 1st nor 2nd try work on https://wiki.mageia.org/en/User:Marja/QA/Hardware#Lenovo_ThinkPad_L530 I must add that I use Grub2 everywhere, maybe it needs Grub legacy to work?
It should not matter what bootloader one uses. But in any case I always use legacy grub.
Still valid for beta1 first build of 23/10. If it is not fixed prior to final, kindly do remove the menu entry. Thanks.

Still applicable to Lives (my test with Gnome Live DVD 64 bit) and classical isos.

Seen again with Mageia-5-beta2-x86_64-DVD. Doesn't work, even after a retry. Laptop DELL Latitude D630.

Fix is in progress, it should be committed tomorrow and then isos rebuilt. Pb seems to be in gfxboot and will be workarounded in syslinux to re-enable boot on local disk for final release
So ... First, localboot have some issues, we shall switch to chain.c32 hd0. This part is pretty trivial but that trigger a weird behavior as gfxboot is padding the automatic method string which confuse chain.c32. I don't like gfxboot, I cannot understand why the noinstall configuration of the gfxboot doesn't have the expected behavior. My proposal, is to first use chain.c32. The 2nd one is too make a very simple patch in chain.c32 to avoid reading too much data. I know this isn't perfect but that will make stuff working very fast. I tested it, it works.

patch merged and new drakx-installer-images submitted. included in next set of isos for beta2, working now perfectly here. Waiting for more feedbacks to close this bug
You've pushed a 2.13 tarball in the package SVN but you'ven't pushed a 2.13 git commit in git. A missing "git push"?
it is. See HEAD commit in drakx

Not fixed here, the system loops back to install options Mageia-5-beta2-dual-DVD on real hw non EFI
(In reply to André DESMOTTES from comment #27) > Not fixed here, the system loops back to install options > Mageia-5-beta2-dual-DVD on real hw non EFI On the pad I see you installed from a USB key. TBH, I don't think the boot from HD option ever worked when the iso was on a USB key instead of on a DVD. So, IINM, this bug was only about that option no longer working when using a real DVD or CD to install from or run a Live from.
Indeed, you are right Marja, I tried with Mageia 4. I never noticed that. Nevertheless, with Mageia 4, selecting Boot from Hard Disk, made the computer boot again and you could enter the Bios settings. With Mageia 5, your are always looping back on the same menu without any possibility to get out (except making the install or a salvage reboot !).

There is: pressing Alt+Ctrl+Delete in the boot screen lets the system reboot
Seen again with 5beta3 LiveDVD Gnome 64 bits.
