Description of problem: I have a Brother printer connected by my wireless network. The printer shows up in LibreOffice's Print dialog, but nothing gets printed, and the printer queue is empty. I tried to add it with spadmin, and got the following error message: GLib-GIO:ERROR:gdbusconnection.c:2279:initable_init: assertion failed: (connection->initialization_error == NULL) It wasn't always like that, although I have reinstalled Mageia 3 times in about a week for other reasons. I can print with no problems from Firefox. If it is a setup error on my part, I apologize. I am running the Xfce desktop. Will provide any further info requested. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): How reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Printing any job from libreoffice. 2. 3.
Found this fix at https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=112482 : "I have had the same problem after update few days ago and installing a2ps package fixed the problem (it should also pull psutils). Somehow filter for brother printer began to require it, although it was not touched for months. o_O" Installing a2ps fixed it for me too. It didn't pull psutils but it did pull groff-perl.

Not fixed then, if a package is required, something in the LO or printing stack should require/suggest it..

No, it isn't fixed in that sense. I don't know how the Archlinux user worked it out. But any action now is not for me to take. I wouldn't know where to start. What is its correct category? Doug.
I've assigned to bug to the libreoffice maintainer, for now.
Sorry, it isn't really a libreoffice bug but a printing bug. As well as libreoffice, installing a2ps fixed an inability to print in Crossover Office as well. The Archlinux guys couldn't print anything.
Another try to state this accurately, as of now: The error opening spadmin has disappeared. That was my system. spadmin showed that my Brother printer was the default for Office. But it still wouldn't print. I run Quicken Personal under Crossover. It wouldn't print either, until I installed a2ps. I was able to print from Firefox, but other reports suggest that many can't print at all. I didn't really have any other app to try. It may be specific to Brother printers. I think that the archlinux bug was that, but at the moment I can't access it because I am downloading my second version of KDE within a few hours. That should be a bug on its own! The USB connection for Brother printers doesn't work in Mandriva or Mageia -- something to do with udev. Brother Support gave up on it. I will make that a separate bug report.

I have a similar problem here: https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1212
There are two distinct bugs involved. This bug was fixed by installing a2ps, but from the distro's point of view, it is fixed only by my doing something. The comment: "The USB connection for Brother printers doesn't work in Mandriva or Mageia -- something to do with udev." is an entirely distinct issue. As soon as I get over this flu, I will file a separate bug report for it, and Jim can decide which is closer to his. I got around this second bug by printing over my wireless network.
I have now filed the other bug: https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1250
task-printing requires a2ps; but when configuring the printer via drakconf, only: system-config-printer task-printing-server task-printing-hp but not task-printing itself (as it pulls many more task-printing-* packages, i.e. more deps). I think it's prudent that task-printing-server require a2ps.
Done; a freeze push request has been posted to the ML.

Thanks for the info.
New task-printing-server is available now. Closing.
