Description of problem: I have BIOS RAID controller powered by ATI - Motherboard Gigabyte MA790GPT-UD3H. I've created in Mageia 2 RAID 1 with two 1,5TB disks and they've worked correctly in raid as backup partition. Now I've decided to install Mageia 3 and use old raid as backup - as previously and I would use two 1TB disks in RAID1 as system disk with root partition. I've created raid 1 in BIOS Installer with 1GB disks. Installer detected BIOS raid and enabled it on both raids and showed me message: +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I couldn't read partition table from mapper/pdc_cgifidea - it's destroyed too much :( You could continue by REMOVING ALL DATA. Other way is installer forbidding modify partition table (error: bad dmraid (missing partition mapper/pdc_cgifidea1), you may try rebooting install with option "nodmraid".) Do you agree to destroy all of your partitions? Yes/No +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Mageia 3 RC1 How reproducible: Boot DVD installer x86_64 form DVD with Mageia 3 RC1 on computer with BIOS raid. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Create RAID 1 in BIOS from two similar drive (the same size/factory). 2. Inform installer that you have BIOS raid. 3. Create partitions on RAID 1 and continue installation. 4. Installer show you message "Partition mapper/pdc_xxxxxxxxx table will be written on disk" Cancel/OK 5. Installer shows you an error: INTERNAL ERROR; unknown device mapper/pdc_xxxxxxxxx MDK::Common:Various::internal_error() called from /usr/lib/libDrakeX/devices.pm:186 etc. 6. if you enter on second conole Ctr+Alt+F2 and write fdisk /dev/mapper/pdc_xxxxxxxxxxx and press p+Enter you could see created partitions on mentioned device. 7. second thing is, that you could create file system ex. ext4 via mkfs.ext4 mkswap and others without any errors on raid1 and mount. Reproducible: Steps to Reproduce:
Priority: Normal => High
Version: 3 => CauldronSource RPM: Installer => drakx-installer-stage2
Dear, I have the same problem with ASUS A7N8X-SLI But for me, I have the information: in TTY 7: missing partition mapper/sil_ajacdedcfcdip1 in TTY2: ls /dev/mapp* /dev/mapper/sil_ajacdedcfcdi /dev/mapper/sil_ajacdedcfcdi1 /dev/mapper/sil_ajacdedcfcdi2 in TTY3: error: bad dmraid (missing partition mapper/sil_ajacdedcfcdip1), you may try rebooting install with option "nodmraid" at /usr/lib/libDrakx/fsedit.pm line 226 Stéphane.

Hello, I've tested Mageia 4 Alpha 2 x86_64 installation disk and issue is not resolved :-( When I choose option - I have BIOS RAID AMD... Installer shows me the same error what I saw previously: +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I couldn't read partition table from mapper/pdc_cgifidea - it's destroyed too much :( You could continue by REMOVING ALL DATA. Other way is installer forbidding modify partition table (error: bad dmraid (missing partition mapper/pdc_cgifidea1), you may try rebooting install with option "nodmraid".) Do you agree to destroy all of your partitions? Yes/No +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ No any other errors is present (small improvement :-) Installer see empty partition table on raid but in console Ctr+Alt+F2 I have partitions in /dev/mapper/ directory and I could manually mount it successfully but installer still claim that do not see any partitions on BIOS raid. Stephane could you confirm?
I can confirm Mageia 4 Alpha 3 still has motherboard raid install and detection issues: As detailed in: Bug 11289
