Description Robert Ottlovich 2013-04-24 10:38:57 CEST
Description of problem:

Mageia3rc cannot boot in latest version of VirtualBox.

How reproducible:

Always. Installer did its job. Nothing happens after boot splash sreen.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install Mageia3rc to VirtualBox (on Mageia1 host).
2. Start installed product.
3. Grub comes up and everything OK.
4. Splash sreen comes up and everything OK.
5. Black sreen comes up and nothing happens.

What I've done:
In installer I checked monitor/video and test was OK; some VBox graphic card with plug & play monitor.
In kernel boot parameter I set to splash=0.
I can select only failsafe mode and work in CLI as root. When I write 'startx' or startkde' or 'startkde startx', nothing happens only black screen.
Checksum was OK.

Comparision:
Everything was fine and bootable in Mageia3beta4. Grub -> splash -> black -> animated splash (with bubbling logo) -> DM. Everything was fine with dualarch CD with LXDE (It was very poor but booted.)

Enclosed zipped dmesg files with a working mageia3beta4 DVD with LXDE and Mageia3rc DVD with normal install (KDE, GNOME, LXDE, other). 32 bit system.

Mageia3rc comes with Linux kernel 3.8.8. Why? Everything was OK with an older one (3.8.3) in Mageia3beta4. When was the package freeze? I think this is the problem with drivers. But I don't know where should I search the solve.

Thanks for the bug report. It is actually a known problem so I'll mark it as a duplicate of bug 9759. This is fixed in latest live isos btw (not yet released)
