Ardour is on Live ISOs but is unable to start jack.
It gives an error when Start Audio Engine is clicked.

It lists /usr/bin/jackd as server.

works fine on x86_64 kde livedvd with more memory.

I'll try the i586 on this system aswell to rule that out.

Hi Claire

What kind of message do you get when starting Ardour ?

is it this :

WARNING: Your system has a limit for maximum amount of locked memory!
This might cause Ardour to run out of memory before your system runs
out of memory. You can view the memory limit with 'ulimit -l', and it
is normally controlled by /etc/security/limits.conf

Ardour and Jack need quite a lot of memory

Some settings are sometimes needed (but this can be done only on an installed version of Mageia) :

1) edit the file /etc/security/limits.conf (adding a line in the end and modifying the rtprio ) for instance, with 2 Go memory you may give 512 Mo to Jack (with 4 Go you may give 2560 Mo ie memlock 2560000 )

@audio - rtprio 50
@audio - nice -10

@audio - rtprio 80
@audio - nice -10
@audio - memlock 512000

2 add your user to the audio group

I should have posted the error, sorry.

It wasn't that one though, it was an error saying it actually couldn't start jack. I guess it could be memory limitations causing it though. I never did try the i586 on the bigger system.

The current live isos have some other issues so I can't check it again at the moment to get the exact error.

Hi again Claire :)

Does this still happen in Mageia 5RC?

No reply and, apart from this question, no activity in this report since April 2013, closing as OLD

Feel free to reopen if the issue is still valid in Mga5 or cauldron.
