Comment 2 Laszlo Pajor 2013-04-14 20:21:24 CEST
I had the same experience, but on a 32bit-Laptop.
First I tried to install the Mageia3 Beta4 directly to an USB-Stick (32GB. All seemed to work well, until this crash happened. Then I tried it again with booting the live-system (which booted without problems, including wifi, sound etc), but when I chose the programm to install it to the disk, it crashed at the same point. This all happened with the LiveDVD-KDE4-i586.iso. Then I tried the GNOME-iso but had the same experience.
I looked for the reasons.. It seemed that the system crashed while trying to install the GRUB boot-loader. I tryed to do it with grub-install manually but that didn't succeed. I saw that there was no device.map under /boot/grub.
As I had on my laptop already different Linux distros running (Ubuntu, Mageia1 and Mageia2), I looked for the device.map in my Mageia2 filesystem and copied it to my USB stick where I had my crashed Mageia3 Beta4 installation. Then I started drakconf, went to Systemstart and selected "Bootmanager einrichten" (Boot manager setup), where I could choose the right partition, kernel-image and initrd.img.
Thereafter I set up my standard user and gave a password to my superuser and was then able to boot my system.
Thereafter, I added the software depositories and all the updates from that moment came without problems.

Which bootloader were you tring to install? grub, grub2?
Comment 5 Thierry Vignaud 2013-04-16 18:40:22 CEST
From the trace it was grub
Comment 6 Laszlo Pajor 2013-04-17 00:20:01 CEST
I just used the grub-install which was part of the Mageia3-beta4 system. I think it was grub? The command did it after manually creating the devices.map via copy from Mageia2 on my notebook (just changed the order of the devices).
