Description Kim Garren 2013-04-08 11:08:54 CEST
Description of problem:
When I open Nautilus, it instantly crashes.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
3.4.1

How reproducible:
Every time

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Click on a desktop icon in Gnome, or just try to open Nautilus
2. Note it won't load at all
3. Try running nautilus from terminal
4. Note it segfaults

I had commented on Bug #5163, and then removed the NFS share in question. Nautilus then worked, but only for a few days; I've just been really busy since and unable to get here to file this.

I do not understand this gdb output well enough to determine if this is a bug already filed or not. I'm doubting that it is, as I don't see it specifically listed.

I have tried it in a new user on the system, I have tried resetting the ~/.config/nautilus and ~/.nautilus-actions folders on both users on my system to no avail. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling nautilus-dropbox (which now does not work to open folder in, since nautilus crashes when I do). I have nothing in the ~/.gnome2/nautilus-scripts folder. I have tried taking each extension out of ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions, and replacing them one by one; it crashed on putting just one back, so I couldn't test further to see if it's an extension or not.

I do not know what else to do. When nautilus crashes, of course, so do the desktop icons I have, which are important; they deal with functionality for me. I've run a gdb backtrace, copied everything in terminal into a .txt file, and will leave it here in the hope that you can tell what's wrong, and where this belongs bug-wise.

I am wondering also if someone can please tell me how to switch to Dolphin or PCManFM to be default file manager in Gnome3 while we work on this. I forget to not click desktop icons, or to open a different file manager when I need one, end up crashing nautilus, and having to logout/login. Preferably Dolphin, as I can do split screen in it, and can't in PCManFM.

Thanks so much!

Bumped up to high priority, as it's a core component for Gnome, and is crashing on load. Should have done it to begin with, sorry.

Bump?

Thanks.

This message is a reminder that Mageia 2 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately one month from now Mageia will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Mageia 2. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX (EOL) if it remains open with a Mageia 'version' of '2'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Mageia version prior to Mageia 2's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Mageia 2 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Mageia, you are encouraged to click on "Version" and change it against that version of Mageia.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Mageia release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.

Mageia 2 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on ''22 November''. Mageia 2 is no
longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or
bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Mageia
please feel free to click on "Version" change it against that version of Mageia
and reopen this bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
