Details

Description Juergen Harms 2013-04-02 23:59:41 CEST
Description of problem:

I received a document with text that has been filled-in into a pre-formatted rtf document (an car accident report). The latest libreoffice does not allow to correctly read this document.

The document consists of a largish series of boxes (lines of text to be filled in) - most of these boxes are not displayed by libre0ffice-4.0.2.1-1, some other few boxes are displayed but only with truncated text.

The document seems to be OK: I can open and correctly read the document on a Mageia-2 platform with LO 3.5.

The original document is somewhat confidential (report on a car accident). I therefore produced (with MS Word on a MS Box) a new document with all person-related data wiped out - and join it as an attachment

rtf document that illustrates the problem

Trying to submit the rtf file as a binary file - hope that works

Checking versions, I realised that I had accidentally disabled my core/release resource: the problem is also present with LO 4.0.2.2-2

Looks OK to me with 4.0.3.1 (from core/updates testing)
Can you try with that version?

I installed 4.0.3.1 from core/updates testing: no change, similar amount of text is still not displayed.

However, my confidence in the quality of the original rtf document, respectively of the capability of microsoft word to correctly display that text is now shaken. When I originally submitted the bug, I had checked the display of the rtf documents on a windows machine (on an old machine hanging around where I was at vacation at that time). Double checking now on my wifes windows machine at home, the display is much better than that presented by Mageia LO, but the MS display here cuts off the upper parts of lines in multiline paragraphs.

I suggest to keep the bug open: the basic fact remains - LO displays this rtf text cutting off large parts. Where I now feel uneasy is the quality of the original rtf text, but I have no means to verify that quality other than by submitting it to MS-word on windows machines. Sorry for this complication.

You had better report it upstream anyway at https://www.libreoffice.org/bugzilla/

Can you try LO-4.3 from updates_testing?
Comment 7 Juergen Harms 2015-02-03 14:15:48 CET
Thanks, I now tried with LO-4.4.0.3
What I get is much better, and perfectly readable.

Some messyness is still there, but I attribute this to a slightly messy rtf document, certainly produced and tested on an MS-word system.

For me it is OK to close this bug when LO-4.4.0.3 lands
