Description Morgan Leijström 2013-03-23 02:40:19 CET
When i plug in any PC card (earlier called PCMCIA) into my laptop Thinkpad T43, on mga3b3 it do not get powered up.

I have tested with an Ethernet adapter, and two USB adapters.
(I just check the USB ports give power, and Ethernet lamp lights up.)

The same cards works in a Thinkpad T61 running mga2.

And when this computer runs sysresccd.org live system the cards get powered and works i just plug them in.

Apparently mga3 fail to handle the Pc Card interface.

This is pretty serious as no PC card at all works then...

According to mcc->hardware, this is the PC card bridge:

Now this is interesting: It works on "same" bridge chip on another computer:

PC-cards work in my Thinkpad T61 7665-CTO, using both current mga2, and this cauldron mga3b3 run from the USB stick. (This system is installed on a fast large USB-stick i move around)

MCC tell me this about the PC-card bridge: (lots of numbers are different except the chip name, so a completely different version?)

It also works on another T61 variant: 6457-6DG.
Only differences in hardware description to the post above are 3 items:
Tillverkar-ID: â0x1180
Enhets-ID: â0x0476
Tillverkarens under-ID: â0x8000

I also checked that both mga2 and cauldron can handle âTexas Instruments âPCI4520 PC card Cardbus Controller used in Thinkpad T40.

Tinkpad T42p have same bridge as T40, also works

mga2 fully updated also fail on same Thinkpad T43 as mga3b3 does = MGA2TOO

Any check you want me to do?
As said it works on sysresccd live disk, so i can have a look there if you want and tell me exactly how to do it.

still valid with latest kernel ?

Version: Cauldron => 3

Comment 5 Morgan Leijström 2013-05-29 15:25:42 CEST
Valid; no power on T43 PC-card running mga3, kernel 3.8.13-desktop-1.mga3

I also checked timing on the working mga2 on T62: PC-CARD USB port start delivering power out seemingly exactly the same time the dialog for encrypted disk key shows up.

lspci -v on mga3, PC Card is not powered.
Comment 9 Thomas Backlund 2013-05-30 00:43:54 CEST

the reason for asking for lspcidrake -v is to see what ldetect tries to map your hw to, something I cant get from a lspci -v
