removable media is getting cheap(slow) and large, and end-user machines end up with alot of RAM, because it's cheap too... this means when when you're copying a substantial amount of data, it finishes quite rapidly, but when unmounting the device, it takes ages to finish... some people start to think that it's not gonna get finished and interrupt it. plus, when people are waiting for a transfer of data, so they an close the laptop, or they are nearing power-loss or whatnot... they are giving a completely wrong impression, the copy took a few minutes, but it'll take more than 2 minutes extra to actually finish... we really need to find a way to mount all removable media as sync by default. see http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/244/ .
