Same problem with Mageia 4, possibly even worse: libreoffice is not usable.

Graphic card: ATI Radeon 3100

Comment 3 Alberto Girlando 2014-03-06 18:46:27 CET
The problem is with the graphic card: does not occur in computers with Intel graphic, or if I use VESA. Things go a little better if I use the X driver rather than the ATI.

In any case it is very annoying

I'm using ati driver.

I've seen it too on my stepmother when I added an old Radeon card.

Source RPM: libreoffice-4.2.0.4-1.mga4.rpm => libreoffice-4.2.0.4-1.mga4.rpm, x11-driver-video-ati, kernel

Comment 7 Alberto Girlando 2015-02-03 08:17:07 CET
I have shortly tested Mageia 5 (live edition, Gnome) and the problem seems to have disappeared. I could not test it extensively because the gnome edition has problems in starting X, that can be circumvented somehow, but which makes testing combersome, at least for an user like me.
Comment 8 Thierry Vignaud 2015-02-06 08:33:46 CET
The question being what fixed it? Newer LO? newer kernel DRM? Newer X.org and/or ATI ddx? Newer gtk theme?
BTW, can someone test if LibreOffice-4.3 from mga4's core/updates_testing fix it?

Also, on my stepmother's PC, the issue depended on which desktop was used.
It didn't show up with GNOME but did with Cinnamon.
Maybe some desktops hides it b/c of doble/triple buffering while others expose it.

Mageia 4 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2015-09-19. It is is no longer
maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug
fix updates.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to
fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later
Mageia version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we weren't
able to fix it before Mageia 4's end of life. If you are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Mageia, you are encouraged to click on "Version" and
change it against that version of Mageia. If it's valid in several versions,
select the highest and add MGAxTOO in whiteboard for each other valid release.
Example: it's valid in cauldron and Mageia 5, set to cauldron and add MGA5TOO.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime,
sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Mageia
release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.

If you would like to help fixing bugs in the future, don't hesitate to join the
packager team via our mentoring program [1] or join the teams that fit you
most [2].

As announced over a month ago, Mageia 4 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2015-09-19. It is is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates.

This issue may have been fixed in a later Mageia release, so, if you still see it and didn't already do so: please upgrade to Mageia 5 (or, if you read this much later than this is written: make sure you run a currently maintained Mageia version)

If you are able to reproduce it against a maintained version of Mageia, you are encouraged to
1. reopen this bug report, by changing the "Status" from "RESOLVED - OLD" to "REOPENED"
2. click on "Version" and change it against that version of Mageia. If you know it's valid in several versions, select the highest and add MGAxTOO in whiteboard for each other valid release.
Example: it's valid in cauldron and Mageia 5, set to cauldron and add MGA5TOO.
3. give as much relevant information as possible. If you're not an experienced bug reporter and have some time: please read this page:
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/How_to_report_a_bug_properly

If you see a similar issue, but are _not_sure_ it is the same, with the same cause, then please file a new bug report and mention this one in it (please include the bug number, too).

If you would like to help fixing bugs in the future, don't hesitate to join the
packager team via our mentoring program [1] or join the teams that fit you

Unfortunately, the problem persists with Mageia 5. It is a little attenuated, in the sense that is less frequent. It is for sure connected with the video driver (RADEON HD 4870 and earlier).

Hi all who commented in this bug report,

Did this bug get fixed? If so, please change its status to RESOLVED - FIXED

If it didn't, then we regret that we weren't able to fix it in Mageia 5. Mageia 5 has officially reached its End of Life on December 31st, 2017 https://blog.mageia.org/en/2017/11/07/mageia-5-eol-postponed/
It only continued to get important security updates since then, because we are waiting for a big Plasma5 update in Mageia 6, that'll fix many of the Mageia 5 => 6 upgrade issues.

If you haven't seen that this bug got fixed, then please check whether this bug still exists in Mageia 6. If it does, then please change the Version (near the top, at the left) to "6". If you know it exists in Cauldron, then change Version to Cauldron. If you see it in both Cauldron and Mageia 6, then please set version to Cauldron and add MGA6TOO on the Whiteboard.

Thanks,
Marja
