Description Stephen Pettin 2013-03-11 23:46:58 CET
It seems there is a problem with my USB Dell keyboard not working once I boot the computer and the Grub boot menu appears. I can use the keyboard to choose which kernel/OS to boot, but once it boots to the GDM login screen, the keyboard doesn't work anymore.

I also have Salix OS installed as a dual boot setup and using Salix, the keyboard does work. The usb mouse works without issues and it is not a usb port issue.

I can't switch to another console (Ctl-Alt-F3) or anything. The mouse continue to work. I can click a username but at the password screen, nothing from the keyboard.

This issue started happening about two weeks ago and I had stop using the computer until now and the same issue is happening. Using older kernels seems not to work either.

I originally installed the Beta1 Gnome3 LiveCD.

if you start in failsafe mode, in a tty, can you type something ?
does it work in the beta3 ?

Component: Release (media or process) => RPM Packages

Yes, typing in Failsafe Mode is working at the command prompt. I'm going to see if I can update the system since it is about 2 weeks behind updating.

I have not tried installing Beta 3. If I can't get this issue resolved, I'll install beta 3 and see how it turns out.

Thnx.

I finally figured out the problem. I was able to boot and go into the Guest account and everything worked, since guest does not require a password to login.

Since I was 2 weeks behind on updating, I went ahead and updated the system, hoping it may fix any problems, while in guest. After the updates and rebooting, same thing happen, keyboard not working while trying to type the user's password.

Finally, I started pressing the keys very hard (real hard) and low & behold, it was working. Once in the system, I do not have to type very hard.

Now I believe everything is okay, I just have to press the keys really hard to get it to work. I'll check for a different keyboard and see if it's the same or not.

Maybe if you can leave this open for a few days and if no one hear from me with the problem, it can be closed.

Sorry for any inconvience to anyone.

Thnx.
