Thierry posted a good idea in https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2975#c24, that i think it is worth an own enhancement request:

When you boot on the only FOSS network install iso, stage 1 should detect missing firmware and if so suggest to use boot-nonfree.iso in that case. I thinkit is a good idea if it also say what hardware it is about.
