Summary: Monitor brightness management doesn't work in Acer Aspire 5633 => Powerdevil can't change monitor brightness in Acer Aspire 5633
hi Marcello. The shortcuts work but brightness no change, before I probe with other S.O like ubuntu and other Desktop Workspace like gnome and the shortcuts work but brightness no change, in mageia I don't install other desktop Workspace. only for information.
try as root modprobe acer-wmi and then use the shortcuts... do they work?
I doed this # modprobe acer-wmi FATAL: Error inserting acer_wmi (/lib/modules/2.6.38.6-desktop-2.mga/kernel/drivers/platform/x86/acer-wmi.ko.gz): No such device after that thw shorctus work but brightness no.
i think you suffer from a different issue then. cheers, Marcello

In the forums someone reported a similar issue with an ACER 5750z (MGA2) https://forums.mageia.org/en/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3001
Same behaviour on my Acer-7750.
CC: (none) => isis2000
Same behavior on my Samsung R530: Fn + special keys show a bar which changes according to key strokes but the screen brightness does not change. Other Fn shortcuts like volume and play/pause/next (in Amarok) work fine. We must observe that each laptop manufacturer is cooking his own soup, changing even between different models of the same brand. This is what makes things complicated.

There are quite a lot of bugs about brightness. Should they be consolidated (dupes?) or should we make a tracker bug for all? Bug 7299 Bug 6058 Bug 11013 Bug 12166
