Description of problem: http://music.case.edu/~rwd/JustTuning/Contents/Benedetti.html adds controls into the web page so you, as reader, can start/stop/pause etc a number of musical examples. It has terms like <embed pluginspage="http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/" src="Benedetti_files/Benedetti1_008.mov" type="video/quicktime" controller="true" autoplay="false" cache="true" height="25" width="520"> which are supposed to embed a player control into the web page. a) If the Totem Quicktime controller is enabled in firefox, opera, all you get is a black bar that does nothing. Ie, the totem plugin is completely useless for playing these quicktime sound files. b) If you disable the totem player, and enable the gecko-mplayer quicktime player, you get a controller, but as soon as you hit play, the whole controller shifts down in its little 25 pixel high window so that it becomes invisible. If you increase the height to 50, then the contol still shifts down on hitting play , but does not disappear. With height="75" it does not shift down. Ie, there is some problem with the way in which the browsers are interpreting this statement and especially redrawing it after it is started. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): totem-3.4.1-1.mga2 firefox-10.0.7-1.mga2 gnome-mplayer-1.0.6-1.mga2 gecko-mediaplayer-1.0.6-1.mga2 How reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Open that web page and look at the slider bars throught the page ( about 10 of them) If you see controls, try playing the sound
Hi. Is the situation better in other distributions? If not, then it would be an upstream bug that should be reported upstream. If yes, maybe we have a packaging issue are could look at other distributions patches.

No idea if it is better elsewhere. I only run Mageia. Perhaps others can test this in other distros. Just tried google chrome with the default installation and the whole thing shifts down just as it does in Firefox with gecko and it seems that it is also running gecko as the quicktime plugin. So the fault appears to lie with gecko and totem. It may be that totem is also expanding the controls so that one cannot see them as well. I have not tested that (Ie editing the web page so that it uses 100 pixel height rather than 25 in totem as well. ) and cannot do so for a while since I am on the road. So, I suspect that the packages this should be reported against are the gecko and the totem plugin packages.

Ok, let's see what the maintainer can do with that.

This message is a reminder that Mageia 2 is nearing its end of life. Approximately one month from now Mageia will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Mageia 2. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX (EOL) if it remains open with a Mageia 'version' of '2'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Mageia version prior to Mageia 2's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Mageia 2 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Mageia, you are encouraged to click on "Version" and change it against that version of Mageia. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Mageia release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. -- The Mageia Bugsquad
