Description Morgan Leijström 2013-02-12 22:13:14 CET
Description of problem:
Suddenly my security plugin for Firefox did not work anymore.
I tracked it to an automatic update of flash browser plugin;
Updating flash-player-plugin makes libplugins.so loose the wrapper!
 # nspluginwrapper -l
listed nothing, so i "rewrapped" it again like when i installed it:
 # nspluginwrapper -i /usr/local/lib/personal/libplugins.so
And it is working again.
The plugin is for BankID, see my HOWTO referenced below

I posted the problem in forum
https://forums.mageia.org/en/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4386
and doktor5000 replied: Probably a bug with nspluginwrapper, or specifically with one of the filetriggers /var/lib/rpm/filetriggers/nspluginwrapper.*

    Version-Release number: 1.4.4-1.mga2

    How reproducible:
Confirmed on another computer with same setup.

    Steps to Reproduce:

1. Have elder version flash-player-plugin installed

2. # nspluginwrapper -i /usr/local/lib/personal/libplugins.so
I have only tried that plugin, see my HOWTO on Nexus BankID
https://forums.mageia.org/en/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=4384
Verify it installed: # nspluginwrapper -l

3. update flash-player-plugin
I now have version: 11.2.202.262-1.mga2.nonfree

4) See the plugin is gone by using: # nspluginwrapper -l

Posted also upstream:
https://github.com/davidben/nspluginwrapper/issues/47
(is that the correct place? not much activity)

Got quick replies from upstream, see there.

So what is happening when the flash plugin get updated?

It should not touch ndiswrapper, right?

So the error is in the flash plugin package?
Or something that get triggered by it.

Comment 3 Morgan Leijström 2013-02-13 02:18:04 CET
Added anssi as he is on flash-player-plugin
Comment 4 Morgan Leijström 2013-02-13 02:20:29 CET
Sorry, in #2 i meant it should not touch *nspluginwrapper* (not ndiswrapper)
Comment 5 Morgan Leijström 2013-02-14 21:52:01 CET
Yep, broke again today by update of flas-player-plugin to 11.2.202.270-1.mga2.nonfree.
Comment 6 Morgan Leijström 2013-03-25 08:52:10 CET
Seems it happen also if only firefox get updated.
Comment 7 Morgan Leijström 2013-05-26 14:52:11 CEST
Scrap comment 6; only firefox update = no problem.
flash-player-plugin update --> i need to run nspluginwrapper -i theplugin
(mga2-64 updates i installed today.)

Why do you need nspluginwrapper at all?

Comment 9 Morgan Leijström 2013-05-26 15:40:49 CEST
It is essential for important applications that vendors fail to support correctly, such as BankID - the most important identity app used in Sweden, see
https://forums.mageia.org/en/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=4384

This message is a reminder that Mageia 2 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately one month from now Mageia will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Mageia 2. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX (EOL) if it remains open with a Mageia 'version' of '2'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Mageia version prior to Mageia 2's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Mageia 2 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Mageia, you are encouraged to click on "Version" and change it against that version of Mageia.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Mageia release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.

Mageia 2 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on ''22 November''. Mageia 2 is no
longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or
bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Mageia
please feel free to click on "Version" change it against that version of Mageia
and reopen this bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
