Description Marcello Anni 2013-02-11 21:26:54 CET
Description of problem:
hi,

i've installed Mageia beta 2 in my pc. i have a broadcom wifi chipset and at boot the wifi switch doesn't light so i have the wifi system not working. I've tried with the old 4.150 drivers and it worked, it only needed to launch the "modeprobe b43", trick not necessary for other kernels. Is it due to the last change in beta 2? please, let me know if you need any other info

cheers,
Marcello

What is the hardware you are using? Is it supported by open source driver or not?

the hardware i have is:

BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] 802.11g Wireless LAN Controller

isn't supported by open-source drivers, right?

Yeah, it seems your card only works with b43.

There is test iso on the mirrors for testing broadcom support: http://distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/pub/linux/Mageia/people/tmb/mga3-wl-test/ did you try it?
Comment 11 Thierry Vignaud 2013-04-23 21:48:35 CEST

Hi,

I downloaded the image Mageia-3-wl-test-LiveCD-KDE4-en-i586-CD .iso today

Good news: I tested it on my DELL INSPIRON 1300 equipped with Broadcom BCM4318.
The WiFi is activated in the starting up of the system.

In console, the iwlist command "wlan0 scan" shows all the networks available.

Unfortunately, I was not able to go farther, the load of the system ends in a black screen no graphic session.

I managed to launch the graphical interface

I can connect in WiFi in 30 seconds! Bravo.

There is now new sets of isos to test broadcom wireless configuration

And to make it more fun...
there is now 4 isos so you can test on both i586 & x86_64 and with
both Gnome and KDE4.

NOTE! the isos have "CD" in their name, but most of them are bigger
than 700M so you need a DVD media if you want to burn them,
otherwise I suggest to use a usb stick to boot from, using:

dd if=name_of_iso of=/path/to/usb/stick bs=1M

And to find the isos:

http://mirrors.kernel.org/mageia/people/tmb/mga3-wl-test/
http://ftp.acc.umu.se/mirror/mageia/people/tmb/mga3-wl-test/
http://distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/pub/linux/Mageia/people/tmb/mga3-wl-test/

(and soon on any mirror carrying mageia people/tmb/mga3-wl-test/ tree)

Hi reporter, can you test this iso as soon as possible as we are starting the last week for bug fixing before final release? THanks for advance

I tested Mageia-3-test-LiveCD-GNOME-en-i586-CD.iso and Mageia-3-test-LiveCD-KDE4-en-i586-CD.iso on my DELL INSPIRON 1300.

The interface BCM 4318 is perfectly recognized by the starting up of the system.

Marcello, have you tested with the isos from Thomas? Can we close this bug?
Comment 18 Manuel Hiebel 2013-05-11 22:05:49 CEST
Ok seems I confused the ethernet and wlan card when modifying the subject..
So as it was reported to works fine with a bcm4318 I'm closing this bug. Thanks.
