Description of problem: Having installed 3beta2 seemingly successfully on my old laptop into a partition of its own, I can't boot into it. I get as far as the 5 bubbles and then get only a blank screen. "Splash=verbose" doesn't give any messages at this stage. I tried "nomodeset" and it worked the first time but not the next time. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): How reproducible: Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.

what for grub version have you installed ? also paste your output of lspcidrake -v (or lspci -vv as an attachment)

This is with legacy GRUB with graphical installer, installed to root partition. Mga2 has the MBR.
ok, I through it was a dup but no > "Splash=verbose" doesn't give any messages at this stage. try with removing splash quiet at grub
Priority: Normal => HighSummary: Can't reboot 3beta2 on HP Pavilion g6 laptop => Can't boot 3beta2 on HP Pavilion g6 laptop (intel card)
Tried that and one moment I was seeing messages appearing on the screen and the next moment just a blank screen again. Tried nomodeset again making sure I put it at the second boot menu and not the first one. This time, after seeing the blank screen for a little while I got a message come up: "Sorry, but there has been a problem starting your graphical display. In order to debug your problem we will automatically switch to a text-based login screen from where you can login as the root user and run the "drakx11" utility to configure your graphical display." plus a bit more after that. I'm in new territory here! Carolyn

any errors in dmesg ? If it boots to text mode, log in as root, do: dmesg > /tmp/dmesg.txt, and copy it to usb stick, (or grab it from the working install) and attach it here
I decided to try the live KDE CD from the official beta2 release on this laptop and see what that did. The first time I booted, I ended up with silence and a blank screen. The second time, I selected "kernel options" and removed "splash quiet" and "install" and it produced lots of text on the screen and booted without a murmur into a perfectly normal looking KDE desktop! I then installed it to the hard drive and was able to re-boot into the desktop with no problem, which is where I'm reporting from now. I think I'll wait until beta3 is out and then try the full installer again. I suspect this laptop may be reaching end of life. Thank you Carolyn
Same problem here on a HP Pavilion dv2000 on Mageia 3 beta 2. From lspci, it has the same intel card: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics controler (rev 03). The problem occured on Mageia 2 too. The only way to have a graphical login screen is to use xdriver=vesa. Otherwise, the screen turns blank during the boot process, and X can't start with a "no screen found" error. Looks related to bug #6077 (this computer is a centrino duo).

Created attachment 3589 [details] lspcidrake -v BTW attachment fro comment #9 is from a boot with "xdriver=intel"
Oh, and the liveCD I used is the GNOME one.
Still broken in Mageia 3 beta 3.

@Luis, @Carolyn, Is this still an issue with Mageia 4 and/or Mageia 5 alpha releases?

That was a friend's laptop, I just gave up, it's now running debian.
Version: Cauldron => 3
Sorry for the delay in replying. It's a strange thing, but Mageia 4 is now the only distro I've found that *does* work on that laptop! Before Mageia 4 came along I couldn't get anything later than Mint 9 to work with it, and the other leading distros still don't. Mageia 5 is looking OK too. Carolyn
@cmrisolde@gmx.com: Since 3/4 installer won't be fixed, and you seem to say M5 is okay, can you close it? Alternatively please change the whiteboard to: 5beta1?

I'll close it.
