I guess liba52 is useless for mplayer. Otherwise the problem ("Unsupported AVSampleFormat 8") is discussed in bug #8704 (which focuses on audio encoding, a separate problem). Audio decoding using ffmpeg (ffac3 and maybe others) is fixed with mplayer-1.1-9.r35756.1.mga3 .
