Ressources: 2 different USB keys, both have been tested before installing Mageia ISOs 3 different computers - x86_64 desktop with normal harddisk - x86_64 with empty SSD - i586 netbook with normal harddisk Mageia ISOs: - x86_64 installer DVD - i586 installer DVD - x86_64 KDE LIve DVD All ISOs are checked (md5) and transferred to USB key using 'dd'. Results: At all tests on all machines the system boots to bootloader emnue and shows the bootloader screen. After that, using "Install Mageia 3" fails. Last picture seen is the check for USB mass storage. Where in a working system the installer starts loading stage2 from the USB key I receive a warning that the install media are not found neither on /dev/sda nor on /dev/sr0. For the netbook the system changes to a list of online options (assuming a net install). For the other machines a list of drivers comes up because the correct module of the USB mass storage fails (or so I think). This was reproduced several time without change on all 3 machines.

It appears here at the very least that any M3B2 Live-CD/DVD run from a USB drive has significant problems. Those problems can vary from platform to platform. In rare cases the Live-CD/DVD will run. More testing on my part and a better idea by the time of the Mageia-QA meeting at 20:00 UTC Thur.
Just a hunch here. If you are creating a DVD install using a USB drive make sure the USB drive is 8GB or larger. Using a 4GB USB may be part of this problem.
I have a clean install and boot to a working desktop using: Mageia-3-beta2-i586-DVD.iso written to an 8GB USB drive. I configured to my local up-to-date repo and warm rebooted successfully back to the working desktop. I then updated using my local repo, rebooted again and that went fine. I mirror from: mirrors.kernel.org

Not here, one of the 2 USB keys I used in the tests is a 8GB, the other a 12GB, no 4GB key used.

Testing with the new build of iso Mageia-3-beta2-LiveCD-KDE4-en-i586-CD (Mon Jan 21 20:55:00 CET 2013) I can confirm that now with this, we can boot on a usb stick. Great job tmb and ennael.
