Description ra oeai 2013-01-04 13:10:50 CET
It's a new installation network installer 25mb+nonfree x64
i've tried the text mode before and that was ok, so i needed to test another bug and decided to install 1 more time
and all things was going well - formatting and selecting repositories
but i'm stuck on "looking for available packages..." screen
i've done it twice -- yes it is
Comment 1 ra oeai 2013-01-04 13:29:30 CET
hmm, no the text mode is now also looking for available packages
but no any disk or network activity i observe.
Comment 2 Frank Griffin 2013-01-04 13:43:51 CET

I don't understand how you could. I've been testing this almost daily for several weeks now, and it fails solidly.

Apparently, this has to do with missing libraries for libreoffice. "Looking for available packages" gets into a loop trying to include libreoffice and disqualifying it.

i don't understand why it is looking for packages if i don't have them, because i've setted up a new default file system.
Comment 8 ra oeai 2013-01-04 14:19:01 CET
ok
i've left only Core Release from repos and i get to the next screen!
Comment 9 ra oeai 2013-01-04 14:19:57 CET
and before there were 32bit releases and nonfree releases marked.

No, it's a dependency loop in the set of core packages. It would be more accurate to say "assembling list of packages to install". You'll notice that the previous panel, "Looking for packages already installed", disappears quickly because, as you say, you're doing a fresh install and formatting the install partition.

That's interesting, and may have bearing on the problem.

i've choosed only "internet" and "other" desktop
Comment 13 ra oeai 2013-01-04 15:03:05 CET
failed 33 packages - failed installation
then checking back available packages (yes i mentioned installed packages)
now the screen disappears faster but building the tree is much longer
after choosing just "desktop-other" i've finished the installation process
so will try to find the error log of failed packages
Comment 14 ra oeai 2013-01-04 15:23:06 CET
no - i don't have the install.log in var/log
some64libs werent found some clutter? i thought to prntscrn it but would be better to have an install.error.log
Comment 15 ra oeai 2013-01-04 15:37:44 CET
that's LoL after choosing the 32bits core i get the looking available packages right out of the rpmdrake!
but actually i mentioned that when i marked it it wasn't asking me to update and probably it is not downloading sources because of some error in the string
Comment 16 Frank Griffin 2013-01-04 15:38:30 CET
To get the log, you need to plug in a USB flash drive, do CTRL-ALT-F2, and type "bug". This will put a text file called report.bug on the flash drive.

But it's useless to do this, as it's already been done for bug#7830.
Comment 17 ra oeai 2013-01-04 15:48:57 CET
i will get into another terminal of my working system - i'm running installation in VM and it's hard to send it without going to fullscreen and actually my usb flash was with sun solaris and then with crucnhbang+tor - so even i not really sure wich partition it will see first.
for VM i would create something more interesting - maybe some simple copy-paste-to-buffer function?
Comment 18 ra oeai 2013-01-04 16:01:30 CET
the interesting thing was that i was waiting for 5 mins till it finishes to do something but then just mouseclick on the window and "searching available packages" disappeared.
and i've posted some more tweaks for installer, so could be interesting.
Comment 20 Manuel Hiebel 2013-01-04 17:55:44 CET
you can on the other tty what's happen, anyway we need real logs for debbuging if there is something new broken (beside the libreoffice loop)

Also there was a gtk 32b loop iirc which was fixed (seen on the dev ml)

That's because the GUI thread is looping and can't repaint the screen...
Comment 25 ra oeai 2013-01-04 22:52:18 CET
i think that the main problem is that some packages between archs are messing with each other, because they are trying to resolve cross dependencies. so for x64 Core systems should be created a list of selected x32packages that will not conflict with x64 prebuilt packages.
