Clean net-installed Cauldron. No notifications for either sd or usb insertions. I see the same problem with a fully updated Cauldron system. A device is detected :- Dec 27 20:01:30 jackodesktop kernel: sd 6:0:0:2: [sdg] 15564800 512-byte logical blocks: (7.96 GB/7.42 GiB) Dec 27 20:01:30 jackodesktop kernel: sdg: detected capacity change from 0 to 7969177600 Dec 27 20:01:30 jackodesktop kernel: sdg: sdg1 sdg2 Dec 27 20:01:34 jackodesktop kernel: sdg: detected capacity change from 7969177600 to 0 ...but nothing in systray device notifier. In systemsettings - removeable devices, setting is default.
I can confirm this bug on the x86_64. I see this output in dmesg: [ 435.172376] sr 6:0:0:1: Attached scsi CD-ROM sr1 [ 435.173831] sd 6:0:0:0: [sdg] Attached SCSI removable disk [ 437.650091] sd 6:0:0:0: [sdg] 31301631 512-byte logical blocks: (16.0 GB/14.9 GiB) [ 437.652587] sd 6:0:0:0: [sdg] No Caching mode page present [ 437.652591] sd 6:0:0:0: [sdg] Assuming drive cache: write through [ 437.654837] sd 6:0:0:0: [sdg] No Caching mode page present [ 437.654842] sd 6:0:0:0: [sdg] Assuming drive cache: write through [ 437.657100] sdg: sdg1 [ 437.765089] sr 6:0:0:1: GET_EVENT and TUR disagree continuously, suppress GET_EVENT events Roelof

Wierd, I tried it in Gnome3 and then there is no problem. When I then log into KDE 4 back then the usb is reconigzed as a cd. Roelof
This seems to be fixed using the config changes suggested here:- https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8473#c2
