What for is it needed?

Comment 2 Kamil Rytarowski 2012-12-24 16:42:30 CET
It's an alternative to md5, sha1 and other digest algorithms. It was decided to be the strongest algorithm around to win the SHA-3 official title.

Needed for personal hacks with Perl.
