Additional info:
On my 32bit hardware box in pclinuxos, kmix works fine.
on my 32bit hardware box in Mageia2 (two ) Kmix also gives an error.

On my 64bit hardware box in pclinuxos , both 32bit os and 64bit os, kmix works fine
On same hardware box, install of DVD 3.7Gb, kmix gives the error
On same hardware box , install from 1.1GB DVD, kmix gives the error

If you want hardware specs, I can send you output-file of <lshw> as root.
If you want any other info, ask

Did you check in your systray that kmix is not already running because kmix won't launch twice.
