Testing KDE livecd 3beta1 (7th December) Apper is installed running in live mode. It doesn't seem to belong and gives an error that it can't talk to packagekitd when things clicked.

does something like 'pkcon search name drakconf' works ?
Component: Release (media or process) => RPM Packages
$ pkcon search name drakconf Failed to contact PackageKit: Error calling StartServiceByName for org.freedesktop.PackageKit: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Spawn.ExecFailed: Failed to execute program /usr/lib/dbus-1/dbus-daemon-launch-helper: Success
this seems a serious dbus mistake (also should we not disable apper as default ?)

Manuel > you should add fwang as cc since he's the one working essentially on apper. According to comment #2 it seems that the issue is directly in packagekit not apper. I personnally thinks we should disable packagekit until we're able to provide a correct urpmi integration because currently (& since the start in fact) it's just broken.

well, the reason for apper on the kde isos is that otherwise we will pull in a lot of gnome packages to satisfy the deps... :/
ah yes, but we can disable it no ? kde team ?

where do you see apper ? i just started a LiveDVD ( not installed just started ) and i don't see apper in the tray
In kde menu Nicolas. It's under Tools => System Tools => Apper
after digging, i know why it doesn't work ( but not yet why it fails :) ). If you start as root : /usr/libexec/packagekitd i think that apper should work OK. can you confirm ?
Source RPM: apper => packagekit
Confirmed that does make it work Nicolas.
I also notice the same problem using Dragon Player to view /dev/video0 It is missing a gstreamer plugin and when closed asks to search for it but clicking Continue shows it "Could not connect to packagekitd".
yes this is not an apper bug but a packagekit or dbus one.
is pkcon working on live gnome ?
Depends on: (none) => 9326
the bug is probably in dbus or install (see bug 9326). reinstalling dbus probably fixes it urpmi --replacepkgs dbus

Hi everyone! What is the situation on that bug on Beta 3?
CC: (none) => pierre-malo.denielou
It was still valid in beta 3. We hope that it was fixed by dbus-1.6.8-4.mga3 (see bug 9326), but this needs to be confirmed.

I think Luc's dupe suggestion above seems likely. Has anyone got a test machine with this problem on it to check the user/perms of dbus-launch-helper?
Closing as duplicate of bug 9326, it's probably the only problem for this bug. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 9326 ***
