Description Pierre Jarillon 2012-11-28 13:33:12 CET
When booting on a DVD, the first screen allows to install, to boot from hard disk, to test the memory... and to choose the language.
The timeout is so short that il is not possible to read and understand all the possibilities in a so short time. Newbies have no time enough to select their language.
For experienced users, if a rescue system is wanted, it is necessary to stay near of the keyboard to avoid to begin an installation.

IMO, it should be better to have no time out and wait for the operator.

Yes, I know! But have you ever see some newbies? A newbie needs more than 10s to read and to understand the first screen. More, the choice of the language should be the first step.
You are an advanced user, I am an advanced user too but the aim of Mageia is to be easy for new users. Never forget this.
To set the timeout to 0 (infinite) is a very good solution for everybody.

No it's not. I've seen systems where you can't use your keyboard at that time (don't remember why but maybe it had something to do with legacy usb devices). Anyway, 10s is enough and if you want to read more then you can press key, timeout will stop (AFAIK this is how it works in windows safe mode too).

Comment 4 Pierre Jarillon 2012-11-28 22:12:57 CET
No, 10s is not enough. You've never see a beginner?
I understand that in some cases, it is necessary to start without a keyboard.
But nothing is written on the screen.
A message needs be shown: Choose a function with the keyboard or hit any key. If not, the install will begin in NN seconds.
