Description Peter Wallace 2012-11-27 15:47:08 CET
Description of problem:

Been running the alpha 2 since iso release, after the updates this morning(27/11/12). grub is in an endless loop after reboot.

This is on a raid disk using dmraid.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

Mageia3 Alpha 2. update grub i believe was .97

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install alpha2 on raid array (dmraid is used in my case.)
2. Allow updates.
3. Reboot

I am not able to dig deeper as it is looping the search for grub stage1.5
Comment 1 Peter Wallace 2012-11-27 15:51:28 CET
Downloading alpha3 to install and see if the update breaks it again. I can also check the version number of the update and a previous bug reported(5558)

Comment 4 Manuel Hiebel 2012-11-27 21:40:44 CET
should be fixed with new rpm according to ennael
but don't ask me how to update it :)
Comment 5 Anne Nicolas 2012-11-27 21:45:53 CET
grub-0.97-36 has been uploaded this afternoon. grub-0.97-35 was the faulty
one.
Please test

Please advise on how to fix the faulty boot sector, as the rescue from isos is not working (corruption error). Thanks.
Comment 7 Pascal Terjan 2012-11-27 23:14:51 CET
The boot sector is not broken, the stage2 is. You need to copy a stage2 to /boot/grub/ in your partition.

Comment 8 Malo Deniélou 2012-11-27 23:54:19 CET
To fix it, you need:
- boot your machine (using an iso for example),
- mount your old partition (for example mount /dev/sda1 /mnt),
- chroot in /mnt (with chroot /mnt/)
- start the network,
- urpmi grub-0.97-36.mga3.x86_64.rpm (after updating your sources).

Thanks pterjan!

Comment 9 Peter Wallace 2012-11-28 01:31:44 CET
Fixed at my end.

Did a fresh install, then applied updates, 97-36.mga3 was listed.

Rebooted and worked fine. :)
