Description Doug Laidlaw 2012-11-27 06:50:24 CET
Description of problem:Just installed updated Grub to Cauldron. I have Mga2 as my main distro, and 2's GRUB as bootloader. After the upgrade, when I rebooted, I got repeated messages that Stage 1.5 could not be found. Reinstalling GRUB from Mga 2 solved the problem. It seems that the Cauldron Grub was made default, but its config was wrong, and the config routine had been skipped.

(Separate issue (or is it?): When I boot from Mga2 Rescue, it always finds Cauldron's Grub. I believe that the Mga2 rescue should find Mga2's bootloader. On this occasion, I resorted to using the Grub 1 Emergency CD from SourceForge.)

could be a consequence of bug 8223, rtp, pterjan, blino, I'm right ?
Comment 2 Doug Laidlaw 2012-11-28 10:30:26 CET
It could very well be; I am not qualified to say.

BTW, I am running Alpha 2. I haven't finished downloading Alpha 3 yet.

I don't think it is directly related, but probably triggered by the update.

Grub updates itself when the package is updated, but it should only happen where it was installed already.

Today's update seems to have cured the problem. My Cauldron bootloader was installed, but that would have happened anyway, if I had run an upgrade-type installation. More importantly, it gave me a proper Grub menu, and I was able to reboot into Mga 2 without any problem. Thanks guys!
