Description of problem:

The dualarch iso doesn't boot on Dell Vostro 3750, after selecting the install option I get black screen with a blinking cursor in the left top corner. I checked the md5sum of the iso file after download and it's correct, and burned it using k3b.

This is with mga 3 alpha3 dualarch iso.

How reproducible:
Always.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Download iso
2. burn it
3. boot it and see the blinking cursor.

The Live DVD also doesn't work, but it at least shows the GRUB menu:

what is your graphic card ? can you paste the output of lspcidrake -v ?
Comment 3 Juan Luis Baptiste 2012-11-21 00:20:54 CET
It's an hybrid one: ATI Radeon HD + integrated Intel. Attaching the lspcidrake output.

How do I start it ? It has been so long since I had an issue like this one that I don't remember how :)

Ignore this, copy/paste error from the other bug I opened related to this ;)

> the grub should at least come, can you test your cd on another pc ?

Yes, just tested it on my desktop PC and it boots ok.

Re-reading my original post, just to be clear: upon booting with the dualarch cd I just get a black screen with a blinking cursor in the top left corner (no GRUB), and like after a minute the harddisk GRUB loads as if I just turned on the laptop with no cd in.

Can you try again with mga3 beta1?
We've fixed several bugs that might be related

Comment 13 Juan Luis Baptiste 2012-12-23 21:42:57 CET
Well I would, but there isn't a dualarch CD for beta 1 on Mga 3 download page.
Comment 14 Manuel Hiebel 2012-12-23 22:04:05 CET
you could try netinstall or dvd without choosing nonfree (as iirc there is not enough space)
Comment 15 Juan Luis Baptiste 2012-12-26 01:35:31 CET
Ok, did the Free DVD install, it boots and installs fine, but:

- If I don't choose nonfree repo and only configure the intel card, I get X working (and no wifi as the Intel drivers are on nonfree)
- If I install and choose to configure the ATI card I won't get X working, no matter I enable nonfree or not.

So the only way to get the ATI card working is to install and configure with the Intel card, boot the first time, reconfigure your video card and select the ATI Radeon 6400 HD or later card and answer yes when asked to use the propietary driver. It seems at this point it isn't possible to get the ATI card working at installation time.

Juan Luis,

Do you still have this problem with Mageia 5 alpha 2?

If not, I propose to close this bug as "old" since no Mageia 3 release will come out.

Closing as all old as per #c17.

If you should see the same problem with current installer please reopen the bug (and change the summary & whiteboard accordingly please). Thanks
