Description William Kenney 2012-11-10 18:35:36 CET
I've tried a printer install with Cauldron and clearly
it looks like my printer is being recognized and all
the necessary rpm's are being installed but when I
attempt to print I get a "printer not connected"
message. This is an HP Office Jet 5500 and installs
and works just fine on my Mageia 2 print server. I
use this printer often.

The HP Device Manager reports the device as present
but if I attempt to "Print Test Page" I get an error
message:
Device Communication error:
tmpVNRtK9
(wilcal/1)

cups is running.

This is an All-in-one printer/scanner/fax. Using XSane
I can scan a document with this device and save the
scan in jpg format just fine. So the device is conected.

When I connected the USB cable M3A3 immediately saw the
device and went through the process of installing the
necessary packages.

Another computer on the LAN does not see the printer via CUPS.

I've attached lspcidrake -v

Today I have run a print test with a new install of M3A3.
I have a successful M2 workstation on my LAN with an HP
All-in-one Office Jet 5500 printer connected to it.
That workstation also is my print server.

Testing M3A3

MCC -> Hardware -> Set up the printer(s)

RPMs are installed. An attempt to print from the M3A3
workstation is successful. I can print, even with color,
from Kwrite and LibreOffice Write from the M3A3 workstation.

(and (In reply to comment #2) you can use journalctl -f(a or o don't remember) )

Gimme a few days this week to build an M3A3 new install
from the ground up and try to install the printer again.
I think the printer will still not install on a M3A3 but
a M3A3 workstation will connect to a M2 CUPS workstation
print server and print just fine.

Many thanks for your help on this one.

ok feel free to take your time
also note that you can see another bug (bug 8125), installing acl will workaround it

> installing acl will workaround it

I have installed acl-2.2.51-4.mga3 and that in fact solved the problem.
My M3A3 test system now recognizes, and prints, to my All-in-One HP printer.
It also works as a CUPS server to other Mageia workstations on the LAN.
I notice that acl-2.2.51-3 is installed in M2 by default whereby acl-2.2.51-4
is not installed in M3A3. Any reason for that?

Can this issue be considered resolved as it looks like it is going
to be added to the install shortly ref: (bug 8125)
