Description Jeffrey Bruton 2012-10-22 07:58:23 CEST
Description of problem:
As previously mentioned, when booting a Dell C600 Laptop off the Mageia 3 Alpha
2 Live GNOME CD-ROM, the installer incorrectly chooses the graphics card,
prompting the installer to display a screen that says:

"Sorry but there has been a problem starting your graphical display.

In order to debug your problem we will automatically switch to a text-based
login screen from where login as the root user and run the 'drakx11' utility to
configure your graphical system.
After configuration, you can restart your graphical environment via the command
   systemctl default
at which point you will be automatically logged out while the graphic systems
starts.

If you would prefer to avoid this message and go straight to a text-based login
system at boot, simply change the symlink /etc/systemd/system/default.target to
point instead to /lib/systemd/system/multi-user.target

Good Luck :)

Press any key"

When the user uses the instructions in the above error screen to successfully change and test the configured graphics card using the drakx11 utility, the last step of the drakx11 utility is selecting "Exit" to exit the utility. Doing so prompts the user to "reboot to save the changes". Rebooting as prompted is not only not needed, but would start the Live boot from the start and NOT save the changes. Clearing the "reboot to save the changes" prompt and using the "systemctl default" command as instructed by the error screen is the correct way to go to restart the GDI with the changes intact. The error screen needs to inform the user that even though the drakx11 utility will prompt them to reboot, they should not do so and instead simply enter the "systemctl default" command to save the changes and continue.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Mageia 3 Alpha 2 Live GNOME CD-ROM

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot Dell C600 off Mageia 3 Alpha 2 Live GNOME CD-ROM.
2. Wait for error screen mentioned above.
3. Login as root.
4. Run the drakx11 utility.
5. See that it prompts you to reboot.
6. Do not reboot and instead enter the "systemctl default" command.
7. See that the graphics card changes are preserved and the system works as it should.

I guess drakx shouldn't really prompt for a reboot in a live environment.
