I have burned 2 CDs recently using Brasero. In both cases Brasero got stuck on final checksum, the remaining time was increasing permanently and it wasn't finish after about 30 minutes. At least one case was on beta 1. Both cases were burning an ISO. The burned CDs seem to be OK.
They're probably not OK. This happened to me several times under Mandriva, each time because of errors in the burn. When I cancelled and tested the disks with dd, I inevitably got I/O errors. So, (1) when the checksum hangs like that it indicates an I/O error reading back the burned image, and (2) in my case the problem was that the laser on the drive was going - if an ISO was over a certain size, the end of it was burned incorrectly. Replacing the drive fixed both.
