Description claire robinson 2012-10-01 17:59:32 CEST
Pre Mga3 alpha2 LiveCD Gnome i586 Nvidia GeForce 8500GT card (nvidia-current)

Doesn't boot to X - stalls at 'Wait for hotplugged network to be up'

Switched to TTY2 and tried startx and noted an Xorg error

Xorg.0.log to Xorg.5.log all have..

[drm] Failed to open device -
No devices detected
no screens found

Booting with xdriver=nvidia kernel option allows it to continue but Gnome starts in fallback mode.

I managed to rescue some logs which I'll attach.

Tested also LiveCD x86_64 on Dell D830 Notebook with nvidia hardware.
With default live boot option it boot with no X, with boot option xdriver=nvidia it works.
Vga=788 did wrong resolution with modern lcd.

Tested new LiveDVD KDE x86_64

Had to add xdriver=nvidia but then it starts with wrong screen resolution and looks slightly 'fuzzy'. lsmod shows neither nvidia or nouveau in use so presume it is using vesa.

Switching to the correct driver in MCC and selecting the correct monitor (plug n play) LV19FM, then testing the settings reports no screens found.

Installing the KDE LiveDVD by selecting Install from the grub menu also fails without adding xdriver=nvidia. Once it is added the installer proceeds. I notice a message though as it is booting to X saying it failed to load legacy module configuration.

Once installed though it reboots and is actually using nouveau.

Still valid latest (10/10) LiveDVD Gnome x86_64
Comment 12 claire robinson 2012-10-12 18:23:00 CEST
That is the first of these live isos I've tested btw so is probably all the others too but I'll check them anyway

Same with latest Gnome i586 LiveDVD so it would seem to (probably) be all live isos affected
Comment 14 claire robinson 2012-11-14 17:26:34 CET
closing as this is not present in 3alpha3
