Description Patrice RIANT 2012-09-26 00:12:58 CEST
Description of problem:
The configuration of the wifi connection always leads to a connection error ("Echec de la connection" in French), and no wifi connection, while the network and password are valid, and the wifi card and driver are fully OK.

A Work around solution found is to configure through :
- Mageia Control Center
- "Configure a new connection"
- Put a tic in all options, especially the "connect at boot" option
- At the end, an error message is displayed by the system, and no connection is available
- Reboot the computer : then the wifi is connected

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
MAGEIA 2 x86-64 / Gnome

How reproducible:
It has been reproduced on 4 Laptops
- Lenovo T60 (Wifi Intel)
- MSI GX-610 (Wifi Atheros)
- MSI FX-610 (Wifi Ralink)
- Lenovo T420 (Wifi Intel)

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Put the laptop in a location where a new wifi network is accessible
2.Configure the wifi connection through network manager, and fill the password of the network. Push the "connection button".
3.After a few seconds, the system reports : "Connection failure" (Erreur de connection in french) and no connection is active.

I encoutered the same problem with the display of erroneous selected essid.
This can be seen on the screenshot I have made. The essid "SFR Wifi public" is selected, I ask for "Configure". The essid name in the configure window is another one "NEUF_XXXX". The mode "Open" is in relation to the selected essid, not the one which is displayed.
I can not launch the connection, but I do not know if it is related.

In /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf the entry for the essid was:
network={
  priority=1
  scan_ssid="NEF_XXXX"
  auth_alg=OPEN
  psk="xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"
}

The line auth_alg=OPEN was not present in other entries.
I suppress it and yet my wifi works !
I hope this help.

This message is a reminder that Mageia 2 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately one month from now Mageia will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Mageia 2. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX (EOL) if it remains open with a Mageia 'version' of '2'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Mageia version prior to Mageia 2's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Mageia 2 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Mageia, you are encouraged to click on "Version" and change it against that version of Mageia.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Mageia release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.

Mageia 2 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on ''22 November''. Mageia 2 is no
longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or
bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Mageia
please feel free to click on "Version" change it against that version of Mageia
and reopen this bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
