Description Jehan Hysseo 2012-09-24 12:38:35 CEST
Description of problem:

I was installing the flash plugin and the installation seems to proceed, then finish with success, but the rpm is actually not installed. And rpmdrake would not tell me there has been an error.
Normally urpmi tells when an installation failed, not in this case.

I describe the error I got if using urpmi here: https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5212#c6

This is a separate bug report, because bug 5212 deals with why the package installation failed, whereas the current report deals with the way rpmdrake should report/handle errors.

Version-Release number of rpmdrake:
rpmdrake-5.34-1.mga2.noarch

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Check flash-player-plugin-11.2.202.238 x86_64 on nonfree through rpmdrake.
2. Run "Apply", installation seems to go on.
3. When it finishes with apparent success, if you search the package again, it looks checked.
4. But if you "reset the selection", and search again for the package, it actually appears unchecked.
=> installation failed but it looked ok until you forced a reset.

Hi Jehan,

Thanks for the report.

What is the output of

rpm -qa | grep flash-player-plugin

(in the console)

I can't reproduce this on Mageia 2, X86_64, btw.

Hey,

just tested. No output at all on this machine for this command.

Thx for the reply :)

Could you please attach the /var/log/messages* from when you tried to install the package? (It is probably in /var/log/messages.1 or /var/log/messages.2.gz, please check the date)

Also, if you still don't have the package: please run (as root)

urpmi flash-player-plugin 2>&1 | tee urpmi-fpp.txt

If after that the package isn't installed again, then please attach urpmi-fpp.txt to this report, too.

Contents of messages.3.gz file, relevant to current bug

Hi,

sorry for the late reply.
Attached is the extract of the messages file which contained the relevant value.
I extracted only relevant information with this command (the messages.3 file being 242M, I guess you don't want all :p):
$ grep -A 10 -B 10 flash-player-plugin messages.3 |grep rpmdrake > ~aryeom/bug7561

You can see several attempts at close interval (because at first, I did not understand that it failed as rpmdrake would not tell it, until I tried with urpmi).

Marja > and for the second test. I did manage to install flash-player, but not through the Mageia repository, but directly the one on Adobe website.

So I ran your command, which uninstalled the existing flash-player, but whatever, I can go back to Adobe website. Also urpmi still fails on this specific package.

Result of LC_ALL=C urpmi flash-player-plugin 2>&1 |tee urpmi-fpp.txt

Just in case, as there were a few words in Korean in the previous urpmi-fpp.txt file (the default on this installation), not much, so I don't think it is much of a problem.
But just in case, so that I don't have to do it again. Here a version with LC_ALL=C.

This seems a valid bug report: rpmdrake seems not to handle the special case of a package's %pre script that fails. Am I right Thierry (the maintainer of this package)?

This message is a reminder that Mageia 2 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately one month from now Mageia will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Mageia 2. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX (EOL) if it remains open with a Mageia 'version' of '2'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Mageia version prior to Mageia 2's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Mageia 2 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Mageia, you are encouraged to click on "Version" and change it against that version of Mageia.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Mageia release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.

Mageia 2 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on ''22 November''. Mageia 2 is no
longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or
bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Mageia
please feel free to click on "Version" change it against that version of Mageia
and reopen this bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
