Updated the Xfce 4.9 to 4.10 in Mageia 2 and thought it is better. So far, no bug, and the settings panel was completed. Just found it strange he uninstall settings panel and orage. But it gave to install again. I found until the system is faster. @ Michael Sorry, I've read your report several times now, but I don't understand it. Are you saying it works great? I don't see xfce 4.10 in Mageia 2, did you take it from 2 updates_testing?

Yes. Is running well, and is of Update_Testing.
Severity: enhancement => normal
(In reply to comment #2) > Yes. Is running well, and is of Update_Testing. @ Jani Why isn't it assigned to QA? Is it not a bugfix-only release or does it need to be discussed first?

I've been too busy lately to do it. :\ Xfce 4.10 is a version update from a stable/development mixture we currently have in mga2. I'll sync some more patches/pkgs (like the plugins) from cauldron before I'll assign this to QA team.
Ok
I've now updated plugins too and added some patches to existing pkgs. Please test new Xfce 4.10. There's one minor glitch when the user does a clean Xfce install with task-xfce(-minimal) when updates are enabled (see bug 6671), but the glitch is automatically corrected when the update is performed next time. I guess we could mention it in mga2 errata and/or in the advisory. So when moving pkgs to core/updates after validation is done, please move this pkg also.

Jani, If I'm reading https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6671#c7 correctly, the package libgarcon1_0 has to obsolete libgarcon0, and have a provides for everything that it provides urpmq --provides libgarcon0 libgarcon-1.so.0 libgarcon0[== 0.1.10-1.mga2] libgarcon0(x86-32)[== 0.1.10-1.mga2] presumably with different versions. As it is right now, installing task-xfce (with updates testing enabled) does not install libgarcon1_0, but does install libgarcon0. Also, are you saying that the rpm package lib(64)xfce4util4 should be moved from Core Updates Testing to Core Updates without any source rpm? I don't think the procedures the sysadmin team use will allow moving an rpm package without a corresponding srpm package.

Currently it doesn't change anything if I add an extra Provides to garcon. Also, it doesn't matter which one gets installed at the first time as when one does the update next time, the correct garcon/thunar pkgs gets installed. Note that all this only happens when one does a clean install with core/updates enabled. If one have previous garcon/thunar installed everything goes smoothly. And yes, the old lib(64)xfce4util4 pkg is needed for smooth upgrade. I'm pretty sure admins can move it by hand if there's no other option. I think it should have been moved to core/updates before I started pushing other pkgs, but I guess it's too late now (unless we have some internal archives from where admins could move old one to core/updates).

If SRPM has gone missing, a simple rebuild would fix that. but if some other (s)rpm has obsoleted this (or just a version bump removed the earlier one), it means this update is broken if the package in question is still needed...

I will test again because I don't like how thunar works from the first time...(doesn't appear after 20 seconds)
There is a problem with thunar, look: https://www.google.com.ar/#hl=en&sclient=psy-ab&q=thunar+slow+to+open&oq=thunar+slow+to+open&gs_l=hp.3..0.2267.5071.0.5347.19.17.0.2.2.1.297.3923.0j4j13.17.0...0.0...1c.1.7XFAT5el-IE&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.&fp=d26d0bbd56f3c8b2&biw=1680&bih=911 This means that I finished my testing :)
Here the Thunar opens normal. Only in Xubuntu that lingered. Thunar 1.4.0 Xfce 4.10
(In reply to comment #14) > Here the Thunar opens normal. Only in Xubuntu that lingered. > > Thunar 1.4.0 > Xfce 4.10 If you had looked at the link I pasted, you wouldn't say "Only in Xubuntu"... I will have a look at it now.
Running as root, thunar opens instantly: Packages installed: Thunar 1.4.0 and Xfce 4.10 # (thunar:2138): GVFS-RemoteVolumeMonitor-WARNING **: cannot connect to the session bus: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken. Resolved by deleting gvfs-smb, now it works fine without being root.
FWIW this Thunar "feature" isn't Xfce 4.10 specific, it's have been there since 4.8 and gvfs migration.
I've now rebuild some pkgs [1] to allow to remove that one leftover pkg without .src.rpm [2] from the mirrors. (tmb could you remove it from mirrors?) After it's removed, some pkgs [3] needs to be removed during the update process as there's conflicts defined, but those pkgs aren't needed by any other pkg in core/updates_testing and the newer ones are available. We could mention this in the update advisory. I've also added some strict deps to pkgs needing libs mentioned in bug 6671 for a clean Xfce install. Please test update process from Xfce 4.8 in core/release and a clean task-xfce(-minimal) install when core/updates_testing is enabled. I installed gvfs-smb and thunar started to open slowly again... I resolved it by editing /usr/share/gvfs/mounts/network.mount as root and changing AutoMount=true to false. Source: "Fix Thunar slow startup on xfce >= 4.8" http://forum.vectorlinux.com/index.php?topic=15792.0
Finished testing Xfce 4.8 - 4.10 update and clean install on Mageia 2 i586. I had the same problem with thunar when AutoMount=true. Also, when doing a clean install with Xfce 4.10 the icons are not from kde.

OK, I've now played a little with the XFCE from updates_testing (4.10.x). On a new user, everything appeared to be working fine. In my existing user, I had a problem that the launcher icons in the top panel both did not have their picture on and instead where completely empty, *and* they didn't invoke their applications. This was resolved after I moved away ~/.config/xfce4/ , and now everything is working fine. Multiple desktops is working, background change is working. Launching apps from the menu, the launcher button, or the terminal is OK. Show desktop functionality is fine. Is anything missing? I'm on Mageia 2 on x86-64 with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD card. When trying to update I get this, I don't think this is due to bug 2317. It seems to point to conflicts with the old lib64xfce4util4 and the new libxfce4util-i18n. The following packages have to be removed for others to be upgraded: lib64squeeze0.2_0-0.2.3-9.mga1.x86_64 (due to missing libthunar-vfs-1.so.2()(64bit)) lib64xfce4panel1.0_3-4.9.0-1.mga2.x86_64 (due to missing libxfce4util.so.4()(64bit)) lib64xfce4util4-4.8.2-1.mga2.x86_64 (due to conflicts with libxfce4util-i18n-4.10.0-1.1.mga2.x86_64) parole-0.2.0.6-4.mga2.x86_64 (due to missing libxfce4util.so.4()(64bit)) squeeze-0.2.3-9.mga1.x86_64 (due to missing libxfce4util.so.4()(64bit), due to missing libthunar-vfs-1.so.2()(64bit), due to unsatisfied lib64squeeze0.2_0 == 0.2.3-9.mga1, due to missing libsqueeze-0.2.so.0()(64bit)) thunar-vfs-1.2.0-1.mga2.x86_64 (due to missing libxfce4util.so.4()(64bit)) xfmpc-0.2.2-1.mga2.x86_64 (due to missing libxfce4util.so.4()(64bit))
I see in the spec.. %package i18n Summary: Internationalization and locale data for %{name} Group: System/Internationalization Conflicts: %{_lib}xfce4util4 < 4.8.2-1.1 Which is probably why. Is there a better way to do this? Trying to remember when i18n was split out of another lib recently but it escapes me.

We had something similar with another package recently Jani but I just can't remember which it was now to find the workaround :(
(In reply to comment #34) > (In reply to comment #32) > > When trying to update I get this, ..snip.. > > I guess I need to rebuild more pkgs with new libraries in core/updates_testing. Rebuild some pkgs and added some obsoletes for a smooth update. Please test again. Will provide a full list of updated pkgs later.
I have just tested an installation Xfce4 pure: - Netinstall with boot.iso CD. Personalized installation. - Remove all the groups of packages. - Then, installation with X server, without suggested packages. - Reboot with XDM and IceWM-ligth. Then, installation of task-xfce-minimal and some applications ( without core_updates_testing). Then, validation of core_updates_testing. The update is proposed. At first time, I am obliged to accept the deinstallation of xfce4-notifyd. 85 packages are then proposed, with notification-daemon. I remove notification-daemon and I confirm. The update is made with no problem at all, by preserving xfce4-notifyd. Several orphan packages are indicated. I delete them with urpme --auto-orphans. In the restart everything seems to work. In the panel, only the icon of logout is missing. It is enough to erase the file xfce4-panel.xml to find it in the next connection.
(In reply to comment #37) > > At first time, I am obliged to accept the deinstallation of xfce4-notifyd. Rebuilded xfce4-notifyd also so this shouldn't be happening anymore.
I redid the test of installation and update, with exactly the same procedure. The update does not ask me any more to uninstall xfce4-notifyd. This objective is reached. The icon of logout of the panel remains missing. It results probably from the new syntax of the file xfce4-panel for the action "logout"
Yes, syntax changed and configurations aren't updated automatically. Users must delete existing ones if they want to use new settings from updated mageia-xfce-config pkg. It's said on README.update.urpmi file [1]. [1] http://svnweb.mageia.org/soft/mageia-xfce-config/trunk/README.update.urpmi?view=markup

When we make an update with a certain number of packages, messages completely go unnoticed. However, certain messages are shown everything at the end of the updates (for example " to restart the computer ") It is possible with mageia-xfce-config ?

Thanks Jani, we'll be able to have a proper look at this again once the alpha is released
Could you add an updated list of rpm's too please when you get a chance so we don't miss anything.

I also realized an installation of task-xfce with some plugins. - At first without the updates. - Then updated by the packages No problems Than new install, directly with the updates. Also with no problem at all You can now transfer of updates_testing towards updates ?
(I don't see the need of feedback) what is the status of this updates ?

Where are we? These updatings date June 30th for the first ones and of September 28th for the last ones!
Lets be clear Georges. This kind of rhetoric helps nobody. The last updates to this bug occurred in October. Since then we have had two lots of ISOs for Mageia 3 to release and had to concentrate our efforts on a rash of security updates in between them. As to where we are now, we can start to take another look now that Mageia 3 alpha 3 testing is over and about to be released. We may even prioritise it once we've had a chance to catch our breath and validate any outstanding security updates.
Thank you for this precision.. I also dedicate a lot of time to test Mageia and to write reports, while English is not at all to me to familer. The on-line translators rarely bring the nuances which I would like to put in my interventions. Please acepter my excuses if I was too abrupt

Testing x86_64 After logging in from KDM the cursor never stops spinning, as if it's waiting for something to start which never does. Applications open with no window manager, so they open over the top of the menu button, launchers and top panel and can't be moved or closed without using quit in the file menu, if they have one. The xfce4-power-manager displays as a red circle with a line through it, as if the icon is missing.

That sounds like the problem I reported once with my existing Xfce installation. I was advised to try removing ~/cache/sessions and that seemed to solve it. That wasn't an update, it was with the current one, but it sounds suspiciously similar. Carolyn

Sorry for the delay responding. That did solve the problem Carolyn, thankyou. After I'd properly set up the release version, the updates installed fine and it didn't happen again. I've been using this desktop today with no other issues so think it's safe to validate. Advisory (Jani please feel free to improve this) -------- Mageia 2 was released with a mixture of versions for the XFCE packages. This updates XFCE completely to version 4.10 -------- SRPM's: See attachment 2928 [details] Linking required: See attachment 3099 [details] Could sysadmin please push from core/updates_testing to core/updates Thanks!

I updated my mageia 2 this morning and got asked the question: The following package has to be removed for others to be upgraded: lib64xfce4menu0.1_0-4.6.2-2.mga1.x86_64 (due to missing libxfce4util.so.4()(64bit)) I said no, and proceeded with urpmi --auto-up --keep. I got the message: Correct answer would have been yes as libxfce4menu is very old and obsoleted. IIRC you shouldn't even have it installed unless you're using old mga1 installation updated to mga2. However, I'll check how we could handle similar issues smoothly.
Yes, it was an old Mga1 updated to Mga2. I eventually said yes, and it's working fine. It's just a bit scary for not tech users.
Updated libxfce4menu pkg [1] is now in core/updates_testing. This new pkg should allow smooth upgrade if lib(64)xfce4menu0.1_0 is installed. [1] libxfce4menu-4.6.2-2.2.mga2

(In reply to comment #62) > Hi, > > the upgrade prompted me to uninstall xfburn and now I can't install it anymore Updated xfburn [1] is still in core/updates_testing. I guess it was missed from list of updated pkgs and thus not moved to core/updates. Could someone move xfburn and libxfce4menu (from comment 61) to core/updates? [1] xfburn-0.4.3-6.git20120601.1
After updating to xfce 4.10, I lost the oxygen theme for xfwm4. Is it not present anymore or is it a bug? I like xfce4 being homogeneus with KDE. And more, I am suffering a litle bug which superposes frames of some applications in others, in the top left corner of the decorations. I think it's related with too big icons.
