The upgrade went smooth. Did the upgrade yesterday. I have tested all KDE application that I have installed and all works well. Also plasmoids seems to work. Like I mentioned in the channel the only issue is partitionmanager seems not supporting swedish (maybe other languages also ?). I cannot switch to swedish it only shows American (English). This issue was also present in KDE 4.8.2. I know partitionmanager should also work with other languages. This is the only issue I can come up with. Here we have partitionmanager: http://mageia.madb.org/package/show/application/0/name/partitionmanager

The above comment is for mga2 32-bits.
Testing on Mageia 2 64-bits. It seems ok. However, I think there is a problem with the task-kde4-handbooks package. When I installed it, no pakage was installed. I think it is because I have already install handbook packages but with older version. Is it possible to modify task-kde4-handbooks package to install the handbook packages corresponding to the new version?

Strange. I don't have this even if i'm using 2 screens with one using an HDMI connection. Just in case can you get ride of thoses warnings mentionned by kdm_config ?
can you also check your xorg.log session ?
(In reply to comment #11) > Just in case can you get ride of thoses warnings mentionned by kdm_config ? Done, but it still crashes. (In reply to comment #12) > can you also check your xorg.log session ? I found no error in Xorg.0.log
Testing complete for KDE-4.8.5 on Mageia release 2 (Official) for x86_64 , for me it's Ok ,nothing to report and no regression since the update of 408 packages.

The crash occurs on kdm startup or eventually only when logging ?

(In reply to comment #15) > Oki, could you install debug packages & attach gdb to the kdm process ? > The crash occurs on kdm startup or eventually only when logging ? I tried to attach gdb but failed, I know I can do it but since the computer is at work I can't do it before next monday. The crash occurs only when logging.
With kmail, I created a pop3 account to fetch cron messages from dovecot. I sent a test message from root to the user account. In kmail, each time I select "Check Mail", it's getting another copy of the same message. I'd expect it to either delete the message from the server, or recognize that it already has that message. This is on Mageia 2 i586.

Menu/Tools/System Tools/Nepomuk File Indexing Controller, aka nepomukcontroller doesn't do anything.
With Kjots, the new book icon or menu entry doesn't do anything, so pages can't be created. This is still on Mageia 2 i586.
(In reply to comment #18) > Menu/Tools/System Tools/Nepomuk File Indexing Controller, > aka nepomukcontroller doesn't do anything. I can't reproduce Did you check that it's not already running in the systray ? Here kjots is launched. Do you have akonadi running/launched ?

Did you configure the pop account to delete the message from the server when it is locally ? Did you have the same issue with kmail 4.8.2 ?

Yes. Figured it out though. I had to select personal information in systemsettings, and modify the notes and local notes to be active.

Leave fetched messages on the server is NOT selected. I'll test 4.8.2 later today.
Same problem with 4.8.2, so this is not a regression. Everytime I select Check Mail, the new copies of all messages on the server are added to the inbox. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=230072#c8 seems to have a fix for this problem. Can you check to see if that patch is included?
(In reply to comment #26) > https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=230072#c8 > seems to have a fix for this problem. Can you check to see if > that patch is included? According to this bug report the patch has been merged in trunk during the 4.5 era so it should be included in 4.8.x
(In reply to comment #26) > Same problem with 4.8.2, so this is not a regression. > > Everytime I select Check Mail, the new copies of all messages > on the server are added to the inbox. I just tested with an hotmail/outlook account without success (i can't reproduce). Since it's happening with a dovecot pop3 server could you give me the version of this dovecot server eventually ? (so i can create somewhere a fake account to test if i can reproduce it )

(In reply to comment #42) > Searching for kscd-debug package I installed kscd-debug-info for kde 4.8.5(from > open suse) and kscd-debug for kde 4.9 from mageia... [...] You should remove thoses packages. In kde 4.8.x kscd is part of kdemultimedia so you need to install the kdemultimedia-debug package. kscd-debug is for 4.9.x not 4.8.x (even if the code did not change that much), regarding installing the kscd-debug-info from open suse i hope you're not installing more package for opensuse on your mageia installation. Also you may have noticed that earlier neoclust explicitly wrote the packages to install.
I have already installed all the packages that you told me and its the first time that I installed a package from opensuse, its not my problem if there isn't any package for debugging kscd. Sorry for bad english.
> Searching for kscd-debug package I installed kscd-debug-info for kde 4.8.5(from > open suse) and kscd-debug for kde 4.9 from mageia... [...] oh yes i missed this part. Please remove them and please follow my instruction and only install : 1- RPMS from mageia repos ONLY from your version 2- DO NOT install rpms from an other distribution if not we won't be able to help you as this won't provide usefull informations. Thanks you.

Ok, no problem. Anyways, could someone try to reproduce the bug?
I tested to play a CD with kscd and I have no crash when I press Play button.
(In reply to comment #47) > I tested to play a CD with kscd and I have no crash when I press Play button. Try without a cd please.
No crash without CD. If I press play, kscd says me that there is no CD! For information I am also using kscd-4.8.5-1.1.mga2 on 64-bits.
Maybe its because I dont have installed my dvd burner, afterwards I will try with the dvd burner installed, the problem is that my power supply is generic so the cables are short and the case its a little bit big. I will change the PSU next month. Thanks for reporting Olivier.
Just finished testing with a dvd burner and there are no segfaults. Also I cant uninstall the other packages, urpme tells me that they dont exist. Sorry for flooding you email accounts.
Created attachment 2661 [details] Backtrace from kdm (In reply to comment #15) > Oki, could you install debug packages & attach gdb to the kdm process ? So, after a painful struggle against gdb and kdm, I managed to produce an almost decent backtrace. Reminder: the crash occurs after entering the password and validating. Looking at the logs it seems related to pam_mount who asks for the password a second time. It didn't crash with KDE 4.8.2. I'll provide also the logs from kdm run with the "-debug 7" option.
Created attachment 2662 [details] kdm debug logs (The segfault does not show in the logs, probably because of gdb catching it)
From a fast search on google, it seems that there's several crash related to pam_mount when using kdm/xdm or others :/
I reported it upstream yesterday and Ossi proposed a patch: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=305501
(In reply to comment #55) > I reported it upstream yesterday and Ossi proposed a patch: > https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=305501 I did not test it but it seems to build without problem here (on x86_64) so i submit it on pkgsubmit. Could you please check once kde-workspace package are available (kdebase4-workspace-4.8.5-1.2.mga2.src.rpm) ? Regards,
It still crashes, unfortunately.
(In reply to comment #57) > It still crashes, unfortunately. I misunderstood your comment "Could you please check once kde-workspace package are available" and installed kdebase4-workspace instead of kdm. With the new kdm, it doesn't crash anymore :)
Oki. Can you also report it on upstream bugzilla? Neoclust> could you also add this patch on cauldron?
(In reply to comment #59) > Oki. > Can you also report it on upstream bugzilla? Done already :)
I pushed a new kdelibs package fixing two mga bugs #2040 (warning about permissions which can't be applied from unix to ntfs initially kde #20650), & #6269 ( hebrew was automatically pulled due to a BR). The initial src package is : kdelibs4-4.8.5-1.3.mga2.src.rpm

there's a new task-kde4 in updates_testing since friday, it's part of the same update I guess? If so please write the new SRPM name in a comment.
Just for information, I think the meta-package kdeedu4 should be update. Indeed, analitza and cantor (at least) from kdeedu module are not included in this package and U think they should be. Maybe there are others missing packages.

I won't fix this one. kdeedu4 was reintroduced against my will by fwang(& same for kdegraphics4 meta package) while it should have been killed since 4.7.x (i initially killed both of them but it was reversed by fwang...). For memory the split of kdeedu & kdegraphics was done in 4.7 era.
Just to let you know that so long everything has been working fine for me (mga2, x86_64). And i can use meta + tab to switch between desktops! \o/
Working well for me on both arches. If no-one objects, I'll validate this update tomorrow.
A more up to date advisory but you can of course enhance it :) Advisory : « This update provides the last stable version of KDE SC 4.8 branch which is a bug fix release. You can check the KDE changelog here: http://www.kde.org/announcements/changelogs/changelog4_8_2to4_8_3.php http://www.kde.org/announcements/changelogs/changelog4_8_3to4_8_4.php http://www.kde.org/announcements/changelogs/changelog4_8_4to4_8_5.php Additionnaly CVE-2012-3413 is also fixed in kmail (see http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2012-3413 for more information) Some mageia bugs have been also fixed : #4078 Step program name was wrongly translated in french #4594 Kmail did not show newly created accounts #5174 Ensure that icons used in some plasmoids are available when using/installing them #6119 Konsole appends whitespaces at the end of lines #6553 Kontact was crashing when marking as read a folder #6159 Networkmanager support has been removed with the ntrack support which should prevent people using mageia's network script with networkmanager installed but not used to have a « non connect » status. #6269 Hard dependency to the hebrew hunspell dictionnary has been removed #5577 it's now possible to use kscd with multiples cd drives with phonon-gstreamer 4.6.2-1.2 (thanks goes to Luc Menut for this hardwork) »
Validating the update. Could someone from the sysadmin team push kde 4.8.5 from Core Updates Testing to Core Updates. See Comment 68 for the list of srpms, and Comment 73 for the advisory. https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7011

As this is a huge update... has anyone done a depcheck ? Hm I wonder if I should list only srpms in this update mail as it will be very long list of rpms...
CC: (none) => tmb
My initial depcheck didn't show anything. Claire gave me a script to get the rpmlist from the srpm list, and I'm currently going through the process of running depcheck on all of the rpm packages. I'll add any packages needing linking shortly.
The depcheck script is generating a huge list for things like ark-handbook. It's including things like bootloader-utils, gdb, mkinitrd, nash, etc. Seems very wrong to me.
Created attachment 2707 [details] List of rpm packages include in update based on current srpm list (841 packages)
Regarding comment 77, the depcheck script is including those packages, as it's using urpmq --wait-lock --requires-recursive --no-suggests basesystem-minimal instead of urpmq --wait-lock --requires-recursive basesystem-minimal. Should we be assuming anyone actually starts an installation with basesystem-minimal --nosuggests, or should we only be trying to accommodate systems starting with basesystem-minimal with suggests?
Created attachment 2708 [details] List of packages requiring linking Here is the list based on the current depcheck script. Do we want to link 244 packages, or do we hold the kde update until bug 2317 is fixed?
Why does the advisory mention "#5577 it's now possible to use kscd with multiples cd drives with phonon-gstreamer 4.6.2-1.2 (thanks goes to Luc Menut for this hardwork)" when there's a separate update candidate for phonon-gstreamer? see bug #7049

This way mga2 might run out of support before we get 2317 fixed. Can't see anyone interested in fixing it. Maybe QA should strike and not process any update before we get it fixed?

The wrong check is against "basesystem-minimal" as installing a system with that does not give a bootable system as basesystem-minimal does not require a kernel wich explains why you get "bootloader-utils, mkinitrd, nash, ..." basesystem-minimal is used in chroots and by buildsystem, but is not intended or used by real desktop installs. But I think we need to check against "--no-suggests" as problems with that showed up during upgrade tests mga1 -> mga2
(In reply to comment #81) > Why does the advisory mention "#5577 it's now possible to use kscd with > multiples cd drives with phonon-gstreamer 4.6.2-1.2 (thanks goes to Luc Menut > for this hardwork)" when there's a separate update candidate for > phonon-gstreamer? see bug #7049 Because the fix is done *both* updates candidates : - one in kscd & the other part in phonon-gstreamer. That's why i explicitly added the version of phonon-gstreamer in the advisory which provides the issue.
Created attachment 2721 [details] List of packages needing linking - excluding those needed by kernel I've change the list of packages needing linking to also exclude those shown by urpmq --wait-lock --requires-recursive --no-suggests kernel-desktop-latest as well as mkinitrd and nash. I confirmed before doing that, that the requires on the server kernel are similar to those on the desktop kernel. Cuts the list down to 238 packages.

Why can KDE 4.8.5 not be released without bug 2317?

(In reply to comment #86) > Bug 2317 has not been touched in August time frame. > Why can KDE 4.8.5 not be released without bug 2317? this update will not be blocked by bug 2317, we will link the needed packages as usual.
So, all needed packages are now linked, but seems kscd still has a problem: https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7049#c10 Do you want to fix it before pushing this update, or fix it separately later ?
Fix it separately (if it's possible to fix it).
Update pushed (a big 840+ rpms / arch) https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Support/Advisories/MGAA-2012-0185

Linking done too Thomas?
(In reply to comment #91) > Linking done too Thomas? See comment #88 ;)
comment 88 doesn't say. I'd imagine he has done but just checking.
(In reply to comment #93) > comment 88 doesn't say. > "all needed packages are now linked" > I'd imagine he has done but just checking. Yep. :)
Ahh thankyou. I'm bug blind today
